NaNoWriMo 2019

Hey everyone, I hope you are all having a great day ❤

Here in Israel, we are in the midst of 3 big holidays. Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and Succot. Why am I telling you this? Well, it’s because this holiday month will not give me much time to prep for this year’s Nanowrimo but I am still working hard on finishing a few things and trying to outline in many details the second book in the series I am working on.

The first book is still in the editing stage but I am only 1 and a half chapters till the end of this editing stage and then I will continue on to the more detailed edits of Line and copy edits.

Nanowrimo 2019, Coffee n' Notes

Anyways, I am so excited for this year’s Nanowrimo that I’m trying to work every day on a bit more editing the first book and outlining the second book, so I will know what I will be writing about. I also love the new site very much but I didn’t like much the fact that they removed all the writing buddies and now I needed to start over. But the new banners look so amazing, they really do get better with them with each year passing, wow. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 10 years, omg.

So if you want to be my writing buddy feel free to add me I’m Jasmin66 and I will be happy to add you as well 😀

I want to try to post more here hopefully, 3 times a week, but not promising anything with the holidays and all, hehe. But I want to try harder because I really miss blogging. At first, I wanted to do Blogtober and I even planned a few posts in bullet form, but after a more realistic outlook of all I need to do this month and the holidays, I figured it was best not to overwhelm myself so I decided on 3 times a week would be sweet for us all 😉

Are you participating in Nanowrimo this year? If so what are you planning to write about?

That is all for this short update and ramblings, have a wonderful day.

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Writer’s Log: The more you have the happier you are

Hello everyone and happy Sunday to you all ❤
Hope you are having a great day 🙂

While reading this post’s title, what was your initial thought? Bullshit? So true? IDK? Maybe? Not for me? Hell yeah, more means success…

Which one of these is more related to you? For me, as an adult, I realize that as kids most of our parents, teachers, society and social media did us wrong. It doesn’t matter if you’re living in a 1 bedroom Apartment or have a 26 bedrooms house. If your basic needs are met that’s all you need.

In a world where everything needs to be better and bigger than what your friends have, know what truly brings you joy, happiness, and more importantly, fulfillment.

More is not equal to success, less is not equal to success… being fulfilled and happy is being a success.

I’ve learned that for me, more doesn’t bring me happiness, and even worse… It brings me sadness, disconnection and more stress to the already stressful life. Having bookshelves filled with over 500 gorgeous Books always been my dream, (to have a library in my own home) but now I’m there and I’m still not happy with my books.

Don’t get me wrong I love reading and the book smell should be a perfume for me, but having these many books, means having to clean them a few times a month (living in the dusty countryside) and doing that, just brings stress, anger and feeling annoyed to clean books, especially the ones I’ve read once and never want to read again, hehe. And this goes with other things like clothes, makeup, and even furniture.

I’ve learned that having more only keeps me away from my true passion, as I’m always stressing about cleaning, decluttering and reorganizing, again and again, every few weeks or months. What started as just a thought become a need and a journey towards a new lifestyle. I’ve realized this weekend that my writing always been connected to how stressful I feel and how I feel about my environment… No wonder I can’t write when I feel so cluttered.

However, I will end this with a great progress 😀 I started to rewrite some scenes that I was so stuck with them and now that my environment feels a bit better, my creative juices are already started to flow and I finally got out of the rut 😉 I wrote in two days about 4+K which felt amazing and the pages that I had major issues with finally looks amazing and the story finally feels like it’s going in the right direction.

Well, that is all for my ramblings in this post, I hope it wasn’t too much, hehe.

How is your week/month going?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

NaNoWriMo Prep: Using October to start writing again

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing okay ❤

NaNoWriMo is less than a month away and October is the month to start writing again or just give yourself a boost of motivation to continue your on-going project. I am (still) in my editing phase so I will continue on with my own writing project in hopes to finally put a serious dent in my edits.

If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, then let me explain it to you… Nanowrimo is National Novel Writing Month that comes every year on November. In this nano month, you will try to write 50K in one month 😀 If you’re gasping of shock right now and thinking that it’s way too hard, then let me tell you that it is hard and it is madness, but that’s the entire fun of this. The point is to write and not think of what your novel will look like (that’s editing for).

Last year and a few years back I wrote a few NaNoWriMo Prep Posts that might spark your creativity and prepare you for what is coming, especially if you are new to Nanowrimo and not so familiar with what is Nanowrimo 😉

Here is my checklist, that helps me stay on track with my writing through Nanowrimo and preparing for it

Know what you gonna write about

Use this month to know what you’re going to write about. Try imagining your world, your characters, the theme of the entire plot. At first, it’s okay to write just a name, a place or a sentence of the plot. The more you write whatever comes to your mind the more good ideas will flow out and spark your Imagination and let it run wild.

Outline

I said this a lot but it’s true, outlining your novel truly helps, especially after the midpoint of your novel. So… Outline your nano novel as much as you can. My outline is about 40 pages and in many times more than 60 pages long (lol, wow… I need help). So do as much outlining as you can this month until you know all the characters, places, plots, and even some subplots 😉

Research

Don’t be lazy and do the work. Research about places, or people.
Listen to some conversation near you, hehe (I know it sounds weird and intrusive but it helps a lot) then, write down some key notes about what stood out in your eyes.
If your book is more on the sci/fi or Fantasy research about that subject, and try to create as many details as you can because when Nanowrimo arrive you will not have any time to do all this and you will have a much easier time writing down almost 2K a day, every day.

Connect

Go now to nano site and connect with other writers. you can find groups in your local area or just add writing buddies to help you be more motivated throughout the month, and do some sprints with them.

Take a break

In the week before nano or even just a couple of days before, take a break and enjoy your freedom, it will be your last chance for some free time for 30 days, hehe 😀

Embrace the madness

Don’t think of how it will turn out, no one has to see it. Enjoy the community and the madness of writing sprints with other writers and race towards your goal of writing 50,000 words a month. Ready to have some fun?

This what I do every year, and it helps me get on track when I feel stuck or just have fun and write with other writers out there, so I hope it will help you too.

After all, as writers we mostly tend to do our craft alone and once in a year it’s so much fun to just embrace the madness of Nano and enjoy the wonderful community ❤ Btw, I’ve made this for NaNoWriMo last year, to put on my phone and on my Instagram and other social media, feel free to download it and use it 😀

Link to download this cute nano picture here: Nanowrimo Pic 😀 Have fun downloading it and, I hope you’ll enjoy using it.

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

5 Tips On How To Start Over

Hey everyone, hope you are all having a nice Wednesday ❤

Today was a very busy day for both me and my mom, she moved to a new room so we had to clean and organize and declutter her stuff and by the end of the day, I felt exhausted. Yesterday was a nice day at home. I cleaned, wrote about 3.2K (yay me), edited, and read a book I am reviewing next month.

Today I wanted to talk about (or more so to share) about my writing progress. In EllE (working title) I am still editing. My editing is going at a slower pace than I wished it to be, but anything is better than nothing and slow is definitely a progress, so that’s good 😉

I have another project that I am working on. I almost finished writing it a while back (like 2.5 years ago). While I was starting to edit it, I’ve realized that there were too many huge blocks of writing that needed to be changed and rewritten, so I printed it and started working on it.

Writing, Coffee n' Notes

Sometimes in editing, you just need to start over and that’s okay.

Now that I am started over, I felt scared but also very excited, lol. It’s like visiting an old dream that you have forgotten, but suddenly remember bits of it. I was so scared to start over from scratch, but now that I am 35K words in, I realize that I’ve made a good choice. The plot runs smoother, the characters feel real and complicated, and the story itself keeps growing.

I wanted to share with you my 5 best tips on how to start over (if you have to start over), without banging your head on the wall or your table, lol. These 5 tips will make you work faster and better.

Btw, these tips work great with every new project as well, the only thing you’ll need to change is brainstorm ideas and then outline.

Coffee n' Notes

Print. Read. Highlight. Outline.

I printed my old novel (75K) and read it very slowly. I highlighted the parts that I thought were important and saved those parts in a new document, in a new order I thought they need to go.

Brainstorming, Coffee n' Notes

Outline or Re-Outline the novel, only this time add every little detail you can think of and put all those highlighted parts in the outline. My new outline is now about 45 pages, lol (while the old one was 5). It’s like a big summery of your novel 😀

Start writing. Work in bursts.

What helped me the most is to make the outline in a new document and start my writing on that, lol. This way, I am not working with a blank page (so no fear of writing or writer’s block) and I will always have a good idea where my characters and plot needs to go, so writing came easier.

Writing, Coffee n' Notes

Writing in small bursts helped me a lot so far. I worked in 20-30 minutes of writing sessions (a few times a day) and it didn’t make me feel overwhelmed or overworked.

After each writing session, take a break with some yummy coffee or tea and some fruit. Enjoy the feeling that you were writing 🙂 After the break, get back to your writing session.

Edit as you go

Don’t wait after you finish writing it all, to edit. Try editing while your mind is still fresh and full of details about the world, characters, and the plot. If you finished writing for that day, take the next day to edit what you wrote so far. Remember this is a simple edit. You will not go into the nitty-gritty of things. Look at the plot and characters, and see if they make sense to you.

Try working in bursts in your editing sessions, it will keep things light and you won’t feel overwhelmed by the entire process.

Write the ending

This is very important, even if it sounds weird. Take a few moments before starting your first writing session and just after you finished with your new and shiny outline. Start thinking about how your story will end and write the end scene of your novel or your last few pages.

This will not only help you see your entire novel in a big picture kinda way, but it will also help you see all the details of the plot and characters. Writing the end truly helped me see my novel and what details I needed to add in the middle (as that is the hardest part for me, lol).

After writing the end, I knew what will come before that and so on… It’s writing your novel from end to start 😉 But it works!

Breath

Last but not least, breath! Take your time and rest in between your writing sessions. Try to find something that inspires you, like a great book or even just enjoying a hot cup of tea (or coffee in my case).

The End, Coffee n' Notes

I really hope these tips will help you with your new or old project, as much as they helped me and if you have your own special tip that you wish to share, feel free to writing down in the comments so will all can learn 😀

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

7 Tip To Survive and Win NaNoWriMo

So… We are a week away from the start of NaNoWriMo and I thought this will be the best time to share with you some of the tips and tricks that really keep me motivated and win (Well… Most of the time anyway, lol, sometimes life must be first and last).

Btw, If you want you a writing buddy, you can add me here and feel free to add me on Twitter as well, and we can do some word sprints 😉 Remember that this is not how you normally go about writing a book, but NaNoWriMo is about the community, quality and fun, and this change of pace helps a lot sometimes… Just remember to have fun ❤

Okay, let’s start with some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years of doing NaNoWriMo 🙂

Plan your time

A planner is your friend here, on those busy days plan some 5 – 15 min of writing. Now on those days that you have a bit more time on your hands, try to plan more writing time an hour or two and you will see that even though you are a bit behind one day, the next day you can be in the lead 😀

You have 50K words to write a month and even though the estimate word count per day is 1667 word, this is not the law – You can write 500 a day and the next day you can write 4K. What matters is the finish line.

Word sprints

These really help to get your brain fluids run smoothly, hehe and twitter NaNo Sprints is a really good place to find many people doing sprints of 5 – 20 minutes of fast writing. It makes you write fast and not think of what are you writing and if it’s the right thing to write or not… You just write.

Writing, NanoWrimo

Planner or Pantser

I am a strong believer in an outline, and I really think that a well-developed outline can keep the darkness of a writer’s block away. So take this week and write your idea – outline it as much as you can and write a sentence or two about your project.

Food and Drinks

Yummy food both healthy and not so healthy is always have been a great part of NaNoWrimos and a great part of my writing process, lol. Pick a few of your favorite food items, but try to put some healthy choices in there as well.

Junk food, NanoWrimo

Books, Movies, and Tv

I really recommend reading a book, see a Tv show or a movie that really inspires you to write and gives you a nudge to go back to your project ❤ I recently saw the great movie Stranger Than Fiction and it was so much fun to watch it, perfect movie to see before NaNo 😉

Kill the inner editor – Kill it!

Never edit as you go. This is not a regular writing session, where you can edit – Editing will only slow you down and even make you doubt yourself. So leave all the errors, red lines and other things that your brain will try to convince you they must be addressed – Don’t listen and keep writing.

Be kind to yourself

If by any chance you are getting behind and starting to feel frustrated, don’t beat yourself up for that. Take a deep breath, go for a walk or do your chores and when you come back, and keep writing. I know the goal is to win but it’s also to have fun with your writing and getting used to writing. So don’t be harsh on yourself – You can always write more words in those other days when you have more time.

That is all for today, I hope you found a tip or more to help you win Nanowrimo. Do you have any writing tips to share with us, that might help everyone be more prepared for Nano?

Embrace the madness that is NaNoWriMo and have fun ❤

Can’t wait for November to start 😀

Fun, Excited, NanoWrimo

Random Ramblings (wow it’s been a while)

Hello, everyone and happy Thursday to you all ❤ For me it means that weekend has almost arrived, lol. How was your week so far? Mine was busy and tomorrow is going to be very busy with writing, cooking, and lot of gaming 😀

It’s been awhile since I blogged… Really blogged, put down thoughts and share them with you all and I don’t include the book reviews or guest post I’ve done. I missed you all so much and I really wanted to update you on a few things that are going on in my life, both personal and work-related.

Things are somewhat calmer these days, though we have a few doctors appointments and check-ups to do in the upcoming months. My mom is feeling a bit better, but she is still very tired. I know that soon she will find her balance and start to feel tons better, maybe as winter will come (hopefully).

My husband started school (jumping up and down, lol, yay), wish him tons of luck everybody ❤ I am so proud of him for going to school again after so many years, I love his ambition to work harder for a better life for our family.

While my husband will be at school, he will also take our car 3 times a week… So, I will have more time to write and edit and finally finish some of our home projects, as I will stay at home those days (unless I will have an emergency, which I hope I will never have).

I have a few things I want to finish so I thought I would do a brainstorming and share these with you.

I have changed my newsletter from quarterly to bi-monthly so I will send to everyone that signed up to my newsletter every two months (for now).

I also have a few home projects to finish. Now that I will have a bit more time on my hands (hopefully), I will have more time to work on my house projects and finally finish some of them.

I started (finally) taking a few small steps into the writing career. But I hope to put this on the top of my daily list so that I can push my goals a bit forward. I really want to finish editing my projects. So I have still tons to do, hehe 🙂

One of my goals is to get back into blogging, but for now, I will only blog once a week (for now). I miss you all and I miss our talks in the comment section and most of all I just miss blogging and sharing with you, my days and my thoughts.

After I’m finished with my last review, I plan to take a break from doing book-reviews for a few months (maybe until the start of the new year). It’s not because I do not enjoy the books I’m reading or reviewing them but I really need to focus on my own writing and editing. Now that my mom is feeling a bit better (knocking on wood three times, lol), I know it’s the right time to focus harder on my writing and finish a few projects I started and start run with them.

Well, that is all from now. It’s so nice to share with you what is going on and just some random thought I’m thinking out 😀 Feel free to share your own upcoming projects and goals you want to finish (maybe this will the wish you put out there and start working on it) 😉

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

My 4 NaNoWriMo Tips

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) has started (yay) and what made this even more special, rain has finally arrived. Rain is here

Brainstorm

Take a bit of time to just brainstorm your idea. Write how you see the story starts and how it might end. Knowing how it will end, will help you when you get a bit stuck (this mostly happen, somewhere in the middle of the month). After you have the beginning and end, throw some adventure on the hero’s way 😀 This is by far my favorite thing to do besides the writing itself of course, lol.

Silence your editor

Yes, we all know this one and it’s hard not to stop and edit that word, or that annoying scene. But don’t! Leave your wonderful editor aside and remember, now you just write, nothing more. Just write.

Write in short bursts

Most nanowrimos can tell you that writing in short burst of 15-25 minutes, can truly help you write faster and just put you the right mood for writing. There’s nothing else in the world but your writing in those 15-25 minutes. Here you can use nano words sprints on Twitter, use an app like the Pomodoro or just put a timer on. This just makes things more manageable and less overbearing.

Community

Nano is not just a sprint to the finish line, it’s also lots of fun. There is so much power in the Nano community, that I urge you to look on Their site for some buddy friends, on twitter and all the social media, you are following. I love the Nano community so much ❤

floral

Enjoy this time, get inspired and have fun with your writing.

That’s all for now and I will keep writing and update throughout NaNoWriMo. I will not be doing nano every day, but I still hope to achieve the 50K goal. I did put in my planner some writing day, as I call them. So far today my word count is 3K of writing and 4 pages of edit 😀 I guess it’s ok for now, lol.

How was your first day of Nano?

As always thank you so much for reading ❤

Any advice on writing?

Advice2

A friend of mine asked me if I have any writing advice, she said it might help her continue on with her writing.
At first, I was thinking “Omg, that’s so cool…”
A second later I answered, only calmer.

The very first thing that was on my mind was “Just write”,
She looked very disappointed.

We all want more, that magic wand that will make a published book with our name on it or a magic pill that will fix everything. So when I said to her just write, it was understandable she will be disappointed.
Sadly there is no fast fix to this.

If you want to be a writer, then write! It’s that simple.

My friend started to pour her heart out about her struggles, such as:

  • She is very messy.
  • She writes too fast and the writing is not what she wanted it to be.
  • She has too many ideas in one plot.
  • She will never be an author.

While she said all these things it hit me that I used to think the same way. So I calmed her down and shared my story, with a high hope it will help her somehow.

“Writers need to write,” I said.

No matter if you write dreams, stories, lines, thoughts or blogs. If you want to be more professional with your writing, you need to write and write some more. Enjoy the craft.
It’s ok, and even more than ok, to let the first draft be messy and “shitty”. It means you never stopped your creative flow and you wrote all that you could write about that story.

The important thing to know is that your story will not be a publishable work at your first draft. If you do think this way then you are living in a fairytale, sorry.

If you let yourself be in the “zone” of writing and write freely then you did do what was needed of you. The revision will be next, but when it comes to writing and jotting down those ideas and plots on paper (or keyboard) it’s best to allow yourself this freedom of writing.

If you feel that what you wrote makes no sense, leave it as it is. You can go back later, but now… it’s writing time. We all want perfection in our craft, only there can’t be perfection. I told her that I am a very messy writer. I have notes all over and even in the document itself.

I want to enjoy the writing or there is no point to it. I enjoy my craft more when I write freely and sadly when you write freely mistakes come soon after. I have spelling mistakes, my plot will suddenly turn into something else and if this happens I just write a note in the brackets, that way I know something changed and I will deal with it later.

Finally, I told her that she can relax because of a lot of other authors when I read about their creative process, say that they are very messy in their writing, after all, it’s only the first draft.

I love this saying so much, “It’s only the first draft.”

Finally, my friend understood what I was saying, but I saw she still wanted the fast fix and with that, I couldn’t help her.

Sorry for the long post and I hope you enjoyed my ramblings 🙂

Side note…

I think I will reach 130,000 – 150,000-word count which is far beyond what is needed, but I don’t want any limitations at this point in my writing. The editing will come later.

What are your thoughts of a first draft manuscript, should it be perfect for publishing? Can a first draft be just a first draft?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Me

As part of my plans to put out a writer’s platform of some sort, I’ve decided to finally do the one thing that scares me the most in regards of social media, it is to share my photo.

I know that to most of you it sounds weird, but it did scare me and I even got a minor panic attack, lol, but it’s over.

So this is me 😀

Me2

Thank you so much for reading ❤

Galit

After a few of you asked me for more details on my current book I am writing, I thought it was best to give you a little update. I decided to make this Book Update as part of a series and I will post a short update every 2 weeks, so slowly you will get more details about my book (hope you will like it).

This book has come a long way from a small NaNoWriMo project (and a new Sci-Fi genre for me) to a real book that I love so much, it was like having a ‘Eureka’ moment, lol. I am now at a climax point in my story. My hero just reached the point of no return, where my hero will have to battle against his own friends and a bad guy in order to survive and save “the world”.

So let’s get into it!

My book is set in a world similar to ours, with a few changes (changes I’ve made so it would fit better to the world I’ve envisioned). It’s a cross of Science Fiction, Dystopian and a bit of love.

From the beginning, this book has two major plots running simultaneously. My protagonist and his friends spent most of their time trying to defend themselves or to escape, while my hero finds out about his special abilities that someday will help him save “the world”.

When I’ve initially planned this novel out, I had a bit of a hard time outlining all the details for such an action-packed novel, but slowly the details settled in nicely and I could see a better picture of both plots and all the subplots that affect Jack (my hero) in his journey.

Jack has a big goal in mind, which will be far beyond his own survival. He was forced into a situation he didn’t expect and even tried to get out off, until he knew there is no other way except to fight his way out of death and even save as many people, in need, as he can.

Without getting into too many specifics, let’s just say that my main character (and his friends) will be running from death a lot while trying to save themselves and others while trying to stop the law organization that kills hundreds of people in the name of freedom and future survival.

Bit by bit Jack will learn more about his abilities and how he got them, he will seek the help of the scientists who started this project.

Will he get there in time? Are they even still living? Can he really stop the big law organization?

That’s it for now. I really have to stop here before I reveal too much, at least until the next update 😉

Thank you so much for reading ❤
