5 Tips On How To Start Over

Hey everyone, hope you are all having a nice Wednesday ❤

Today was a very busy day for both me and my mom, she moved to a new room so we had to clean and organize and declutter her stuff and by the end of the day, I felt exhausted. Yesterday was a nice day at home. I cleaned, wrote about 3.2K (yay me), edited, and read a book I am reviewing next month.

Today I wanted to talk about (or more so to share) about my writing progress. In EllE (working title) I am still editing. My editing is going at a slower pace than I wished it to be, but anything is better than nothing and slow is definitely a progress, so that’s good 😉

I have another project that I am working on. I almost finished writing it a while back (like 2.5 years ago). While I was starting to edit it, I’ve realized that there were too many huge blocks of writing that needed to be changed and rewritten, so I printed it and started working on it.

Writing, Coffee n' Notes

Sometimes in editing, you just need to start over and that’s okay.

Now that I am started over, I felt scared but also very excited, lol. It’s like visiting an old dream that you have forgotten, but suddenly remember bits of it. I was so scared to start over from scratch, but now that I am 35K words in, I realize that I’ve made a good choice. The plot runs smoother, the characters feel real and complicated, and the story itself keeps growing.

I wanted to share with you my 5 best tips on how to start over (if you have to start over), without banging your head on the wall or your table, lol. These 5 tips will make you work faster and better.

Btw, these tips work great with every new project as well, the only thing you’ll need to change is brainstorm ideas and then outline.

Coffee n' Notes

Print. Read. Highlight. Outline.

I printed my old novel (75K) and read it very slowly. I highlighted the parts that I thought were important and saved those parts in a new document, in a new order I thought they need to go.

Brainstorming, Coffee n' Notes

Outline or Re-Outline the novel, only this time add every little detail you can think of and put all those highlighted parts in the outline. My new outline is now about 45 pages, lol (while the old one was 5). It’s like a big summery of your novel 😀

Start writing. Work in bursts.

What helped me the most is to make the outline in a new document and start my writing on that, lol. This way, I am not working with a blank page (so no fear of writing or writer’s block) and I will always have a good idea where my characters and plot needs to go, so writing came easier.

Writing, Coffee n' Notes

Writing in small bursts helped me a lot so far. I worked in 20-30 minutes of writing sessions (a few times a day) and it didn’t make me feel overwhelmed or overworked.

After each writing session, take a break with some yummy coffee or tea and some fruit. Enjoy the feeling that you were writing 🙂 After the break, get back to your writing session.

Edit as you go

Don’t wait after you finish writing it all, to edit. Try editing while your mind is still fresh and full of details about the world, characters, and the plot. If you finished writing for that day, take the next day to edit what you wrote so far. Remember this is a simple edit. You will not go into the nitty-gritty of things. Look at the plot and characters, and see if they make sense to you.

Try working in bursts in your editing sessions, it will keep things light and you won’t feel overwhelmed by the entire process.

Write the ending

This is very important, even if it sounds weird. Take a few moments before starting your first writing session and just after you finished with your new and shiny outline. Start thinking about how your story will end and write the end scene of your novel or your last few pages.

This will not only help you see your entire novel in a big picture kinda way, but it will also help you see all the details of the plot and characters. Writing the end truly helped me see my novel and what details I needed to add in the middle (as that is the hardest part for me, lol).

After writing the end, I knew what will come before that and so on… It’s writing your novel from end to start 😉 But it works!

Last but not least, breath! Take your time and rest in between your writing sessions. Try to find something that inspires you, like a great book or even just enjoying a hot cup of tea (or coffee in my case).

The End, Coffee n' Notes

I really hope these tips will help you with your new or old project, as much as they helped me and if you have your own special tip that you wish to share, feel free to writing down in the comments so will all can learn 😀

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Random Ramblings (wow it’s been a while)

Hello, everyone and happy Thursday to you all ❤ For me it means that weekend has almost arrived, lol. How was your week so far? Mine was busy and tomorrow is going to be very busy with writing, cooking, and lot of gaming 😀

It’s been awhile since I blogged… Really blogged, put down thoughts and share them with you all and I don’t include the book reviews or guest post I’ve done. I missed you all so much and I really wanted to update you on a few things that are going on in my life, both personal and work-related.

Things are somewhat calmer these days, though we have a few doctors appointments and check-ups to do in the upcoming months. My mom is feeling a bit better, but she is still very tired. I know that soon she will find her balance and start to feel tons better, maybe as winter will come (hopefully).

My husband started school (jumping up and down, lol, yay), wish him tons of luck everybody ❤ I am so proud of him for going to school again after so many years, I love his ambition to work harder for a better life for our family.

While my husband will be at school, he will also take our car 3 times a week… So, I will have more time to write and edit and finally finish some of our home projects, as I will stay at home those days (unless I will have an emergency, which I hope I will never have).

I have a few things I want to finish so I thought I would do a brainstorming and share these with you.

I have changed my newsletter from quarterly to bi-monthly so I will send to everyone that signed up to my newsletter every two months (for now).

I also have a few home projects to finish. Now that I will have a bit more time on my hands (hopefully), I will have more time to work on my house projects and finally finish some of them.

I started (finally) taking a few small steps into the writing career. But I hope to put this on the top of my daily list so that I can push my goals a bit forward. I really want to finish editing my projects. So I have still tons to do, hehe 🙂

One of my goals is to get back into blogging, but for now, I will only blog once a week (for now). I miss you all and I miss our talks in the comment section and most of all I just miss blogging and sharing with you, my days and my thoughts.

After I’m finished with my last review, I plan to take a break from doing book-reviews for a few months (maybe until the start of the new year). It’s not because I do not enjoy the books I’m reading or reviewing them but I really need to focus on my own writing and editing. Now that my mom is feeling a bit better (knocking on wood three times, lol), I know it’s the right time to focus harder on my writing and finish a few projects I started and start run with them.

Well, that is all from now. It’s so nice to share with you what is going on and just some random thought I’m thinking out 😀 Feel free to share your own upcoming projects and goals you want to finish (maybe this will the wish you put out there and start working on it) 😉

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Life’s Update

Hello everybody, I hope you are having a wonderful day 🙂

This month was one busy month. Yesterday I got out of the hospital after doing a small procedure and it still hurts to move, but I don’t have much time to sit back and rest, lol. I need to organize the house for the upcoming holiday or more of a celebration. On May the first, mom has her second chemo and I need to feel much better until then, so I can take her and be with her. On May the second, we are celebrating our Independence Day (Yom Ha’atzmaut) and I really want to be able to help with the cooking and organizing.

So.. Just as the month will start, life is already starting to get busy. For now… I’m mostly resting and trying hard not to move that much, so maybe that way things will heal faster, lol (maybe).

I have so many projects I want to finish and I also have so many book reviews to get to, it’s a bit hard to just sit back and rest and let the body heal, but I don’t have any choice. I am not in the mood for reading much right now, but I did get in the mail, Heena’s new book Deceived and I can’t wait to dig in and enjoy a quality reading.

As you see, not much happened this month but it was still busy and hectic for me and sadly I have no writing/editing updates to give you, maybe next month 😉 But for now, all I want it to rest and heal (as fast as I can).

Have an amazing weekend everyone

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Monthly Goals (And an Update)

Hello everyone,  I hope you are all having wonderful Thursday ♡

For this update, I thought I’d share with you some things I thought about and already started working towards them. March is about to become a very hectic month. My mom will still be at the hospital for most of March, then we need to see if she’ll go back to the home she was or somewhere else. I have a few things to do for myself as well and I want to push my writing and editing even harder. So, next month I have a few doctors appointments to go to and probably on April I will undergo Hysteroscopy and I hope all will be okay.

My mom is doing okay. It’s hard, can’t say it isn’t hard and now that she entered her 5th week of Radiations and Chemotherapy, It’s getting even harder. But other than that, mom is doing good and she’s trying to keep herself busy.

I don’t know if I ever told you this but 2016 was a very busy year for me in writing. I finished writing 3 full books. They’re finished with their first draft and second drafts (#1 is about: 115K, #2 is about: 80K #3 is about: 80K and I also wrote four more but just as ideas (10K-20K each). I think writing has become very easy to do on my phone and it helps me a lot, with all the hectic weeks I’m having, lol. However, the editing part is so hard for me to do on my phone or even on my tablet, but slowly I’ll get better at that 😀

I had a lot of time to think these past few weeks and by the end of 2017, I want to accomplish a few things. I wrote a few quarterly goals, but I broke them down into monthly goals as well.

So here are my monthly goals for March 🙂

1. Edit 2-4 chapters.
2. Write 2-4 chapters.
3. Blog 1-2 week, even if just to say hello (missed you guys a lot).
4. Be more active in my social media.
5. Research on marketing more.
6. Research on publishers and agents.
7. Keep eating healthy and drink more water.
8. Journal more, even if it’s in my bullet journal.
9. On weekends, organize the house a bit more.
10. Read at least 1 book.

What are your goals for March? And how is your 2017 so far?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

I’m Back & Ready (Finally)

Hello to all my wonderful readers and fellow bloggers, I’m back!

I am so happy to be back, sitting in front of the keyboard and writing this post, I really missed blogging and I missed you all so much ❤ If you followed for a while now, you know that I had a few hard and stressful months. I am so sorry that I’ve been gone for this long, but I am back now with renewed powers and energies.

July & August were stressful beyond what I thought it would be. This summer was too hot and too hard, especially when I barely been inside with the AC and was out and about for most days.

September was much less stressful, but with our trip to London (I will write more about that later) and all the holidays (one after the other), I really had no time to do anything, but be with the family and trying to do some small things around the house. It was just a very busy month!

October is a new month and with it comes to a new start and even though the holiday ends only on Tuesday (can’t wait, lol), I’ve already planned my weeks  and started scheduling posts and other things I want to accomplish like my writing and editing and my reading which I put on the back burner for a while now.

I don’t know why, but October always made me feel calmer and less stressful. I think it’s because October is the start of fall for me and I know that not long after, winter will come (I miss the rain and winter so much).

During these three months, I have really missed reading and editing, but I loved that I found little time snippets to just write whatever comes to mind and the new story that I am writing right now surprised me in so many ways that I can’t wait to see where it continues 😀

I am making a lot of changes around the house and soon I will start to make some changes here as well. I feel like it’s time for some change and as I am slowly reorganizing our home, I feel less stressful and even more creative, lol and I want to bring these thoughts to my blog as well. I just feel like a little change can help so much ❤

Sorry again for being away for so long, not reading all of your lovely posts and being late in my replies. But now things are slowly getting to back to normal and even though I am still busy, I am much more organized with my time and I am more clear with my thoughts 😉

I’ve missed you all so much and I am so excited to be back ❤

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Fav Five Intro

Welcome to the new feature called ‘Fav Five’  (Fav 5 as a tab) This will replace the question mark menu tab.

For those of you who read my newsletter, you probably already know what this is all about, but for those who didn’t sign up for my newsletter yet (what are you waiting for btw, lol… click here),  I am sure you can guess what Favorite Five is all about 😉

Here I will post only twice a month (on Mondays) about all my favorites of the month (2 weeks), It can be about anything and everything from girly stuff, geeky things, gaming, writing, books, links, and everything that I looove

Personally, I am really excited about this feature and I hope you’ll like this as well, because not only I will share my favorites and learn about yours as well (hopefully), but also because it is a lighter subject. I will continue to talk about writing and books a lot more in the future, lol, so no worries there 😉 This is just a short intro, so we are all in line with what’s going on 🙂

Btw, from the next newsletter I am starting a new feature that will run only in the newsletter and not in the blog, so don’t forget to sign up 😉

Before I close this post, I really wanted to say thank you so much for all your support these few weeks, you have been so awesome – Thank you ❤ A small side note, I’ve reached 500 followers on Twitter, thank you 🙂

I hope you are all having a wonderful day and tomorrow I think I will finally have some time to read all the overdue posts, lol (sorry about that).

Friday Musing

Hello Y’all, yey, I sound like a true country girl 😉

It’s Time for Friday Musing again, I hope you are all having a great Friday ❤

Today I have two Friday Musings and I hope you will like them both.

My first is actually a book I have read recently. This book was so weird and so beautifully written that it really inspired me in so many ways and still do. It gave me another point of view on my writing as if I was not the writer at all. I love looking at a book I write through the reader’s eyes and not just the writer. In this book I’m writing now I had some issues at the first chapter, something seemed to be missing and now… Now I know what was missing. I went back and tweaked a bit with the first chapter and now I have a better understanding of what I did wrong in that chapter. Fixing it was extremely easy now as I have a better understanding of how the reader will read it and after reading the first chapter out loud I could easily see the places I need to add information and the places I need to delete.

I love how a book can change things within you and your how you do your craft ❤

My second musing for this week is (and I will sound very cheesy, even extremely cheesy but I will take this chance), the book reviewing on Henna’s TRB blog. The book reviewing has suddenly made a huge change in my daily life. I made a commitment and so I need to better schedule my time to give it the perfect amount of time a book needs. Doing this and my writing, hubby, home, mom, friends and other projects I want to do leaves me with very little time left so I had to start scheduling my time better, much better… Hey, a lot better 😉

The reasons it’s here then and not on some problem list is that this is one of the things I always wanted to learn. How to schedule my time better but in a way that will leave room for creativity and inspiration.

I am truly grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow ❤

Well that it is for this Friday, hope you liked it.

On a final note, I got a comment that asked me to show what is on my desk.

So I thought… Why not.

This how my desk normally looks like when I am not writing with my computer and writing with tons of pens and markers and even more papers and notebooks 😉

Sorry, the picture came out fuzzy 😀

I wish y’all a great day and a wonderful weekend 😉

Thank you so much for reading ❤

New month… New Goals

Before I will start with my February Goals, I wanted to know if you saw my new blog header and the new tagline I wrote underneath the blog title. It is very similar to the one I had before, but a bit cleaner. If you cannot remember the one I had before, I am linking it here and I would love to know your thoughts about the new header vs. the old. Thank you ❤

I have a few goals for this short (too short) month

I get too distracted and I end up not doing what I want (or what is needed). My goal for this month is that after my writing session and after I eat something yummy for lunch, I will start with cleaning the house and starting making dinner for at least 1 hour. This way I will still do something, but not a lot.

I want to read at least 1 book this month. I don’t know if I will be able to buy a new book, but I will continue with Terry Pratchett’s books, I have a lot I haven’t read yet, and find a few on sale or free books I can read.

Coffee n’ Notes

I really want to push myself a bit harder here as well and try to post a bit more.

I thought of doing a Friday Musing (I will post something that really inspired me that week or that day) and try to post a bit more throughout the week 😉

I want to organize my blog a bit better. I don’t think I will change my theme, yet. I love it too much to change it, but I do want to reorganize it so it will look better.

As always, time is a bit slippery for me, lol, so I want to “grab time by the horns” and manage my time better.

I have a huge block of time for writing which is about 4-5 hours. The rest of the time isn’t set properly, so I get distracted when people want my attention and before I know it hubby is home and I no longer have the energy to do things around the house, as all I want is to chill out and relax or play GW2 or just watch T.V.

After I wrote and deleted tons of words (did it twice, lol) I am a bit behind on my word count for this month, but not by a lot. I missed a few writing days (weekend and migraines) so I pushed myself harder these last few days.

By the end of January I did try to be a bit more organized with my writing and so I have downloaded the free trial of Scrivener, just so I can learn how to use it and see if I can use it daily. With Scrivener, I already see more improvement in my beats organization, which is a great start for loving this software.

If you don’t know what are beats, beats are from saving the cat by Black Snyder. I use beats a lot in my outlining and writing, as with it I see my whole plot better and I don’t get stuck.

  • A side story… Yesterday was a slow writing day. I needed to write a scene with that basic fear in it. Now I have been in situations where I felt fear, But it was different. Anyway, I couldn’t write it as well as I wanted. My friend always says to Summon what you want and it will come. At that moment when I thought of what she said a huge black fly entered the room and circled around me. I hate bugs (a lot!) and it was one of those flies that can bite or sting you, so I was really scared. I know it sounds silly to most people, but hey, it worked, lol. I ran out of the room, grabbed my bug-spray and I sprayed him, which made my entire room smell. I opened the window and he vanished. I think I was high on adrenaline (which is impossible with my illness, lol) 😀 but it worked. When I returned to my new desk, I wrote about 2K words in 40 minutes (for me it’s very fast).

I want to push a bit harder and write 5-7K each day and I will not be editing the other book alongside my writing. I learned that it is just too hard for me and my writing suffers because of it. So no editing!

March is getting close and I am not near to the end as I wished to be, so I must push harder and not get distracted.

That is all for now, sorry for the long post. I hope It wasn’t too much.

Thank you so much for reading ❤

New Buy: My Writing Desk

Well, after public demands to show pictures of my writing desk, I thought I must show you my new writing space, so here it is 😀

I first wanted to say how happy I am that you really want to see silly things like that… I love it ❤

I hope you like the pictures (sorry it came a bit dark).

Hubby built this desk on Friday and after I reorganized the room today and set everything in the right place, I took a few pics to post them here for you ❤

In the picture, you can see that I have a huge monitor and my laptop. I use them both mostly in my editing, although I love using them for writing as well but not all the time.

I have a simple but perfect desk lamp, I am so happy that I bought it, it’s perfect.

I have 3 notebooks on my desk which I use a lot:

  • My writing notebook: I use it to take notes, or write a sudden plot that came to mind, anything and everything about my story can go in this notebook.
  • My dream journal: I don’t need to explain here much, right?
  • My doodle notebook: I call it a doodle notebook, but it’s for everything I want to draw, sketch and doodle to free my mind when I need it.

I also have my weekly & monthly planner.

I have a small jar, that once contained soaps, that I use for my pens and highlighters 🙂 My favorite pens are there as well as few regular ones, mostly blue and red. They were once scattered inside my purse and in my closet, lol.

I can’t live without having post-its by my side, I use them a lot!

I have my coffee on my desk, usually, I have my coffee in my owl mug (that I love so much) but today I used this one, to keep my coffee hot.

Finally, I love the little footstool I placed under the table to put my feet up when I’m thinking or just writing with pen and paper (I used it before when I wrote in the kitchen).

This desk is simple, but perfect for me and what makes it even more awesome is that it’s my space. It’s not in the living room or in the kitchen, and as I set everything in its place I already feel that this little desk is my own writing place.

All I need to make this space even more perfect for my needs is a good chair. I have some thoughts about what kind of chair I want (something like an executive chair). I also hope to find a big cork board to hang above my desk.

I can’t stress enough the importance of having your own space for your craft. This little space is mine and it is already very inspiring.

Thank you so much for reading ❤

January Update

Wow, January is almost over.

This month was so hectic with so many things happening. Sorry for me being MIA, things just got a bit too busy than I thought it would be. Planning to post more after the weekend ❤

New buy

I searched a lot for a new writing desk and finally, I found the perfect one, It’s all in boxes right now waiting to be built. I wanted my own space, a place that is not the living room or the kitchen, just my own writing place. It will be in my spare room where we have our closets and laundry, but there is enough space to fit a great writing desk.

Still looking for a good chair and I hope to buy one soon.

I also bought a cute little lamp as well, can’t wait to organize my desk ❤

I hope that hubby will build the table this weekend and I will post a few pictures on my Instagram and maybe even here.

Sugar-free January

My sugar-free month is going great, I didn’t have any sugar at all this month. I can’t say it was easy… It wasn’t! I will not do that in February, lol, but I will eat real food (no junk) even if it contains sugar in it. I will not eat sweets at all, but food like smoked salmon (I miss it, so much) I will eat even if it has sugar in it.

My only advice to anyone who thinks of trying to lower their sweet intake is to do it slowly and drink lots of water or green tea, it helps a lot.

I was planning to edit one of my books I have already finished writing The Adventures Of Biloby The Wizard

The editing is not going well, so far. I guess I can’t-do two things at the same time. I will try to set time at weekends for the editing, but I haven’t worked on a plan for that, yet.

My writing

My writing is going good, but not as good as I wanted it to be at this stage. I am planning to push harder (much harder) in February. My average was about 5K (5,000 words) a day at the beginning of the month, but as the month progressed, my average went downhill. Now I write about 3K a day.

My plan for February is to push as hard as I can. I know I can do better with my writing.

So far I write mostly in one sitting and sometimes maybe two for about 4-5 hours total. But now I plan to write in one sitting at least 5K for 4 hours, take a small break and sit for another 2 hours (at least). I am planning to be less in social media and will close my phone more (it helps a lot).

Will continue to update you all as I go on 🙂

Two most important things I’ve learned this month about my writing

  • My difficulty this month was time, I did learn how to put my time to better use and set a huge block of time for my writing. It still needs a bit of tweaking though, but that’s ok. I will learn how to balance home with writing, I just need a bit more practice 😀
  • I’ve learned to put my writing first. It’s a work in progress, but I am doing much better at taking time for myself.

That is all for now, a new Book Update will be on the weekend.

Have a great weekend full of relaxation and creativity ❤

Thank you so much for reading ❤
