5  Stars

Wow. This is Heena Rathore’s debut novel, but you would never think that when you read her book. She wrote Deceived so masterfully.

I know Heena for more than 2 years now, she became a wonderful friend and a kind person to know. If you don’t know who she is, go give her a visit. But now that she is about to publish her first novel, I was even more thrilled to read her book and I am so happy I did. I may not read a lot of Thriller books, but this book was amazing and scary to read.

Once the book arrived in my mailbox I was so happy to see this gorgeous cover, it made the book even more chilling and scary. I must say that my expectations for this book were met and even went beyond them.

I loved the Forward by Patrick H. Moore, a crime blogger and a writer, which clarified the difference between psychopath and sociopath. I think it was a great idea because a lot of people get confused by these terms and usually think they are the same.

This book has a very wonderful feel of Stephen King combined with Neil Gaiman to it, a beautiful mix of creepy/scary and Psychological elements. This book is dark, emotional and scary in a way that chills you to the bone.

I usually don’t like it when the POV changes, but Heena did it masterfully and it made the story flow better and even made it more enjoyable, also reading the events from the killer’s POV made it feel even scarier and twisted.

I found myself guessing who the killer is, and although I guessed right it was still a guessing game right up until the end.

Characters

Ally (Allison Stone) is the main character the story, nine years ago her mom and 5-year-old brother were murdered and she never been able to move on with her life, making things worse is her nightmares filled nights also she is being stalked by someone but won’t get any help. I really connected with Ally as she is a writer as well and loves to read a lot, but I also connected with her pain and anxiety.

Max, Ally’s dog. I would say that I love dogs a lot (a lot!) but there was a very scary part in the book about Ally’s dog Max, Thank you Heena for that mini heart attack and the tears 😀

Sam, Ally’s roommate. She is such a wonderful addition to Ally’s life and to the story.

Steve is Ally’s cousin and a journalist. His main goal is to find out the killer of Ally’s family, however, he is my least favorite character, I just couldn’t connect with him.

Danny, Ally’s boyfriend. After moving in with Danny she realized he is not the guy she thought he was.

Elizabeth the 13-year-old girl (her story is set in 1978), wow she was chilling and that story really was creepy.

The killer (which I’ll leave you to figure out who he is by yourself), was very well crafted to a very scary point.

The journal entries in the story add so much to the story, well-done Heena for writing this so masterfully, they flow and seem so real at the same time and they have a huge part in understanding who is the killer, these journal entries give us hidden bits of information.

This book is a page-turner and you will not get bored – I promise you.
Both the gorgeous cover and the story delivered on the premise of the book of leaving you by the end feeling scared and chilled by the possibilities.

As you get closer to the end, the story becomes more violent and chilling that while I was alone I read it with all the lights on, locked the door and constantly watched all the windows for any movement. There are a few big warning signs that Ally ignored and I just wanted to shake her vigorously, resulting in me shaking the book a lot, lol.

The ending is so good, but I won’t tell you more about that, I will, however, say that it was written extremely well, it was horrifying and came so quickly that I was shocked (still am).

Not all is perfect and I will say one thing that was a bit confusing to me, the names of some of the characters in the book are too similar.

To sum up everything

This book can easily be a movie thriller – easily. Everything is so well written and detailed, even the brutality was a stage to move the story and characters to where they needed to be by the end of the book.

The story, the characters and the writing all leave you wanting more and you won’t let the book down.

The cover is chilling and amazing. I know I already said this, but I had to say it again, lol.

I recommend this to everyone who likes thrillers, phycological story, mystery, and crime. But I also think that even if you don’t read much of this genre (like me), you should still give this a read, you’ll love it.

(Sorry for the long review, I guess I had lots to say, lol)

I loved the writing style of the author. It reminded me so much of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) with how the characters move and how the story is played out.

I hope your weekend was restful and great and I wish you all a wonderful week, full of joy, rest, and inspiration 🙂

Book/Read Tag

Book Tag, Notes

Happy and relaxing Tuesday to you all, I hope you are having a good week so far 🙂

I found this cute tag over at Kim Chance YouTube Channel and I had to give it ago. We do share a few similarities of the book we love (and love, less) but I still enjoyed doing this tag a lot. Hope you enjoy reading 😀

10 questions all about books and reading!

1) What is the prettiest book you own?

I have a lot of pretty covers but I chose two and they are:

The Magic Thief Book

Cassandra Clare

2) What book have you read the most amount of times?

I love re-reading my books over and over again 😉 If you take out Harry Potter, Jane Eyre and Jane Austen’s books that I mostly re-read these two lovely books:

TheHost

TheOnlyCityLeft
3) If you could befriend any author, who would it be?

Omgosh, there are so many, I can’t choose one (sorry) 😀

J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, Robin Hobb, G.R.R.M, Stephenie Meyer, Diana Gabaldon and Sarah J. Maas ❤

Fangirl
Me, just thinking about being friends with one of them

4) Kill, kiss or marry? (Choose 3 characters)

Kill: Voldemort, lol, but also Gale from The Hunger Games (he is so annoying).

Kiss: Edward Cullen from Twilight

Marry: Peeta from The Hunger Games

5) What book are you really excited to read and disappointed when you finished?

I waited for this book a lot and I was so excited to read it. When I finally got my hand on this book, I read it all in one sitting. After finishing this book all I wanted to do is scream “Why… Why…” I just don’t get it… Why?

Allegiant

Moving on before I will freak out again… Already got the shakes, again.

6) If you could pick one world to live in, which would you pick?

Harry Potter’s world ❤

7) Read all day or write all day?

Nope. Such an unfair question.

Writing is air for me as you all know by now, but reading…

Reading is dreams & heart.

I write and I read and there is no way I can choose between them.

8) What character would you want to look like?

If you mean the physical appearance, Bella from Twilight.

If you mean what character I want to be, I would choose Hermione from Harry Potter & Celaena from Throne of Glass. I love these characters so much, They are both pretty, strong and such a bad-ass 😉

9) Where is your favorite place to read?

Anywhere where there is quiet. I don’t like to fall asleep with my book so no bed. Mostly on the Sofa.

10) Do you read in silence or with music/TV?

LOL, silence or as quiet as it can get 😀

Well, that is all, hope you enjoyed reading this lovely tag 🙂

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Having my computer working finally is beyond bliss ❤ I edited my novel today and wrote a few pages (just heaven). I even started re-reading my books for the book reviews to finish them by the end of the month. I can do so much more through the computer then my phone (Yay me).

This week here at Coffee n’ Notes was a short but sweet week 😉 If you missed any of my posts, here is a short list of them, I hope you’ll enjoy reading them 😀

January Update

Happy Tuesday to all my fellow bloggers and readers, I hope you are having a nice day and amazing week 🙂

If you remember I have done a bit over a week ago, a post about my Quarterly Goals, however, I did miss posting these Monthly Update (a lot), so I thought why not start again 😀

Btw, my computer is still not responding, freezing and acting up so much, that I can’t even write a simple blog post on it. It’s not in the budget to buy a new one right now so for now, I am mostly writing and reading your lovely posts over my tablet and phone. It’s hard but at least, I can do something.

As the new year started and the first month has ended (wow, where did January went?) I wanted to do a monthly feature of a monthly update. I used to do this last year, so if you want to walk down memory lane, then here is last year’s January Update 😀

Writing

  • Written 20 pages in my current manuscript (Not great, but okay. I will do better).

Having no computer makes writing a lot harder, but I am writing as much as I can on my tablet and phone. So far I haven’t looked at my word count and I am so happy about it 🙂 It helped me focus better on my goals (who new) 😀

Editing

  • Finished revising Immortal Earth (Book 1 of The Earth Legacy Series). Finally got to those blessed words “The End” and not wanting to burn the entire manuscript, lol.
  • Edited 10 more pages of I.E. Making it a total of 45 edited pages (mostly line editing before I give it to a copy editor).

Sadly here, I don’t have much to share. Again, having no computer or printer makes things harder but, I did edit a few pages on my phone and tablet (I can’t tell you just how hard and annoying it is, lol).

I’m a bit disappointed with myself that I haven’t made more progress here, but I hope I will get used to the editing on my tablet or phone and maybe it will make the process easier (wish me luck).

Blogging

  • Monthly Blog posts: 8 (Yay me) 😀
  • Read only a few blog posts.

Here I am somewhat proud that I kept to my monthly goal of 8 posts, but I am also a bit disappointed that I’ve missed an entire week of blogging due to a hectic week.

I did manage to finish reading all the blog posts I wanted of a few bloggers these couple of days, but I still have a few more bloggers on my list to go through.

Author, Business

Here, I made a bit of a progress, lol (Yay, feeling like a grown up, lol).

  • I updated most of my Social Media covers so they will look clean & better 😉
  • I wrote the query letter and listed out all the publishers I wanted.
  • I also registered for CreateSpace for the new WIP, that will be self-published and started to see what I can afford to do, what not and all the how’s, lol.
  • I have a huge giveaway coming up and I already started working on it 😉
  • I started accepting questions over on Tumblr so feel free to ask me anywhere you want, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and at Coffee n’ Notes. I got so much (mostly anonymous) questions and it’s just so fun going through them and answer, so feel free to ask me anything
  • I cleaned up my Monthly Newsletter 🙂 Btw if you haven’t signed up yet… What are you waiting for? lol. I also changed it a bit, as I started doing something new that you will see in the March Newsletter. That is why the January Newsletter wasn’t sent out (sorry for that). I will send out February Newsletter as planned 😉
  • I also searched for cover artists and editors. So far I liked 3 from my list. If you know any good and not too expensive editor and cover artists feel free to let me know

Reading, Books

  • I started reading again (Yay), I missed reading so much. I read much slower than before but I hope it will go faster again, soon.

phew

Overall I think I have done okay, but I still need to are needed. What do you think? Should I get a “well done” pat on the back? Or not 😀

How was your month? Did you accomplish a few of your goals? and what are your goals for February?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Goodbye 2015: Reflections and Goals

Goodbye2015It’s only a few hours before the New Year arrives and it seems as if the world stops and waits for it to come, lol.

This post will be long (sorry for that), so grab yourself something yummy, a fluffy blanket and relax as you read through this post 🙂

Reflection On 2015

For me, 2015 went by in a flash, I could barely calm myself down and enjoy a month, and the second month jumped in front of me. Soon enough it’s the end of the year. Looking back at 2015, I recognized some of my wrongs and some of the things I did well.

January-April

These 4 months were a good start of the year. I did struggle a bit with my writing but I managed to write a lot. I was very focused on my goals and I had minimum distractions.

This blog was still relatively new and I learned so much through blogging and through the wonderful people here.

I feel like a broken record saying this, but you guys are more than amazing to me (really). You have an amazing power to lift my spirit and these gifts I always take with me in my everyday life.

May-June

These 2 months were extremely good. I was on the right track and I knew what I want from my writing, home, and blog. I managed to do a lot of work and it made me feel productive and efficient.

July-November

Well, life got a lot more complicated, fast.

My mom had chosen to get out of her house and go to a Home. It was a hard transition for us all and tons more work, lol 😀 To tell you the truth, I felt more than overwhelmed and stressed.

I tried to do so much in a short period of time and it was just a matter of time until I will hit that wall. Summer is hard for me, anyways and I wasn’t used being so active at summer time.

I am very happy though that I have the opportunity to help my mom and be there for her, mostly because I get to know my mom as she is now and as I am now (both adults), but I did need to learn to take care of myself better.

In these 5 months, I did learn a lot about my writing and how I can write fast and everywhere 😉 It’s true that this is not always my best writing (I can always edit later), but as long as I’m writing, everything is okay 🙂

The editing part is hard for me, I have yet learned how to do it if I’m not at home, sitting by my desk with headphones on (with white noise playing).

December

Wow, what a month this is. I am sick for almost the entire month, lol. Did nothing but sleep most of the time.

2015 Goals

NewYear'sResolutions

Saying goodbye to 2015, is a lot easier than other years, lol.

Even though I’ve learned so much this year, it’s still has been a very hectic and stressful year. I could easily say that this year was a bit too much for me and I wouldn’t mind if next year would be a little bit less busy (or crazy) 😉

Here is my Goodbye 2014, if you want to travel a year back (just click on the picture) 😀

2014

Writing

My Goals (or plans) for 2015 were: Finish Immortal Earth, Book #1 (The Earth Legacy Series) and even finish editing it as well.

I did finish writing the first draft, but I didn’t start editing it.

Research

I bought a few books about editing, writing and about the business behind the writer/author. Took lots of notes, listened to some awesome podcasts and even watched a few great YouTube videos. Did tons of research so I will know my craft better 😉

Planning & Time Management

I was always good with planning but I was less good with the whole time management thing, lol. Luckily I’ve learned a lot (and still learning) about time management and how to plan things better.

I am so lucky to have such wonderful bloggers who helped me with their posts about this subject and watch some great YouTubers who helped me plan my months and days better and be more efficient and utilize better the tools I have (my planner, the old pen and paper, my phone and even if I want, my tablet) 😀

Blogging

Wow, this one was hard and tons of fun 😀

I tried to blog 3 times a week, some weeks I blogged more but most of the time I blogged three or less. I have enjoyed experimenting with some features and types of posts and I hope that I will be doing much better next year.

Reading

“Books must be treated with respect, we feel that in our bones because words have power. Bring enough words together they can bend space and time.”
Terry Pratchett

I happy to say that this year, I’ve read more than I planned to read. I wish I could have read more but there were weeks I couldn’t read at all.

I miss books so much and it’s true that I can continue on reading on my tablet or phone, but I miss the touch and smell of a new book.

Health and Fitness

Sadly, here I haven’t succeeded at all. I did try my best to eat healthier but as the stress built up, I went back to my old bad habits 😦 I need to learn to handle this better. I think I did well with my goal to stay positive and think positive. I do try to go by this rule every day 😀

Wow, we reach the end 😀 If you made it until the end, you are amazing ❤ If you didn’t, you are still amazing 😉

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤
