I was given an ebook form of this book for an honest review.
This is a spoiler-free review and trust me, when I say that I had to re-write this review a few times, lol. I always let some important details out.

I love fantasy a lot, most of my reading genre is Fantasy. I am not much into the romance that is in so many fantasy novels, I’m more into the adventure and the magic, but I don’t mind the romance 😀

First of all, let me start by saying that this book was such a great read.
You have multiple POV which I normally don’t like much but it is so well done here, everything goes smoothly as the changing in the povs happening and the author was able to keep me in suspense, the entire time. I loved it.

The characters

The characters truly made this story better, they are so relatable and fun to follow. And even the evil antagonist is OMG, wow… I love the bad guys/gals in a book and a movie, hehe. Through the relationship between the antagonist and the protagonist, you can truly see and understand the war so much better.

I enjoyed Vallich and Kari as characters and I wanted more of Vallich.

The romance was not my favorite thing in this book, but it didn’t bother me to put less rating. I loved everything else in the book so much that I kept it as 5 Stars ❤

My favorite characters are Vallich and Aurellia and not just because of Aurellia is my mom’s name, hehe. I felt more connected and every time they appeared in the story I dove deeper, eager to know more, see more. But Vallich is so well written, I mean you always on the age of the sit when Vallich appears in the story. The author did an amazing job here, wow.

The world-building

The world-building and the magic system are also so well developed and masterfully written, I felt like I’m in a new (but somehow familiar) dystopian world full of magic.

You get sucked into the story fast and when it ends you look at the book in despair “What…? I want more… Give me more… Write more… Write faster, lol”

But seriously I am so happy to have another great series to follow.
The author gives are some clues about the lives of the people across Azanthea and even the smallest details you read gives you so much information and you learn a lot about the history of this new world. I want more of that.

The Godstones were amazing to learn about, even though I wanted more information about all the abilities you get from them. Can’t say more without spoiling this for you, sorry).

Everything in this book was fascinating to learn about and I kept wanting more. I want to know everything about the powers and about this dystopian but fantasy world. I want to meet more people and see more of the land. I guess I just want more books, lol.

The ending had lots of omg moments, lol, because everything kept getting messed up and go sideways and then the book ended. The book ended on a cliffhanger – NOOO! I love it 😀

Overall, if you like magic, plot-twists, betrail, adventures, and amazing but diverse characters, this book is most definitely is for you!

Blurb

Ryan Scribe is eighteen and has it made.
He lacks nothing and doesn’t even know anyone who lacks anything.
Then he hears a beautiful actress say, “Truth is often stranger than perception,” and he begins to look at his world with new eyes.
All it takes is one wrong question and he is swiftly banished from the only home he’s ever known. Forced to join a band of traveling players, stage actors who look like they could have stepped straight out of Elizabethan England, Ryan begins to question his life, his country and everyone around him. Can he really trust a group of actors? Will his questions land him in even more danger?

Review

5 Stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It had such a great twist to a Dystopian world you usually see in novels these days.

Ryan the main character in this novel is going to a play. This play was written by the players themselves and Ryan who was so fascinated by the idea of writing something, decided to write as well but in his closed community this was not allowed.

Soon enough Ryan finds himself in a new community after being banished from his own and see those players he watched before. He starts to learn more about these players and how their community works and what is allowed to do and not. After a while, he founds out that each community only knows, their own part of the truth and laws.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot. It was well written and very intriguing. This is a mystery and dystopian novel, with lots of twists that make you think of how things may go in this world and if it’s right or not, even in our own civilization.

The main character and others are so well thought of and well written. I could easily step in Ryan’s world and walk with him through his adventures.
There were drama and romance in this book, but what I loved most is the way it makes you think and how close to home it felt (the fights we are fighting as a world community these days).

The only thing that bugged me in this novel is that it ended so quickly and I really wanted more (a lot more). I want to see more and know more of this world and the characters 🙂

I highly recommend this book to everyone who likes dystopian books like divergent. Players even make you think more and you feel involved with the world, the characters and gives you a fresh look on your own world. It was a wonderful read.

If you want to know more about the author and how she got her idea for Players, go look at her guest post I posted here, Where Do Story Ideas Come From? 🙂

Book Update

If you missed my post about my book update I had done before, you can click here.

I keep pushing this post further down my draft folder (don’t know why), but I thought it was time to write this post, as I do have lots of changes and I did tons of work.

Word count so far: 60,000 words, give or take a few (not counting yesterday and today). I love to round up my writing, no real reason to do so, but I like it.

Pages: 250 pages.

OK! Let’s dive into the book (a bit):

I promise to keep this short 🙂

As I said in my first my post (link under the picture), my book is set in a futuristic world very similar to ours. It’s a cross of Science Fiction, Dystopian and a bit of romance.

I am now at a point in my story where my Hero has had his Fun & Games (It’s a beat from save the cat) and is now deep in the Midpoint beat.

At this point, Jack (my main character) is tormented by many imaginary and real sights while fighting to breathe due to the lack of good breathable air. This pushes him close to death, without him even knowing why. Without getting into specifics, that I can’t write here (sorry), I can say that this takes its toll on him and from here on out there is a very visible transformation that occurs.

Here Jack will feel a lot of anger, loss, and confusion, but that’s ok. This will help him grow as a person and gain the strength he needs in order to fight his enemies (in Act 3).

Because there are two major plots in this story, that are running alongside each other throughout the story, there are a few bad guys here, but there is that one guy who makes the leap and becomes more horrible and motivated than the others.

In this midpoint of the story, Jack will soon find new friends while trying to find his old ones.

The bit of romance (<3) I have in my story will start to unfold, and Jack will struggle with it, a lot!

I love writing this story…

I love how the story keeps me more excited about what comes next. I know it sounds funny as I am the storyteller, but there are some details that I don’t know, even though I have outlined my story, sometimes my characters do surprise me and the story goes on a side road for a bit. I love it when it happens because this way I get to know more about my characters and their world through their eyes and their appearance.

I had a few struggles with the story…

At first, I had a bit of a struggle combining the major plot lines together smoothly.

At first, I had like 2 stories, lol, that should work together, but they didn’t. It took me awhile to understand where is the right line to mash them together.

Now, my major struggle is showing my antagonist (villain) the way I see him in my head. So to solve that I am building him from the ground up, lol, I’ve created a folder that is just about him 😀 There in notes, I put all the details I can think of so I will know him as I know myself.

I don’t know if this sounds crazy or not, but it helps me a lot.

If you have any suggestions for a great antagonist, please share them in the comments, I would love to know your thoughts on this 🙂

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Book Update

After a few of you asked me for more details on my current book I am writing, I thought it was best to give you a little update. I decided to make this Book Update as part of a series and I will post a short update every 2 weeks, so slowly you will get more details about my book (hope you will like it).

This book has come a long way from a small NaNoWriMo project (and a new Sci-Fi genre for me) to a real book that I love so much, it was like having a ‘Eureka’ moment, lol. I am now at a climax point in my story. My hero just reached the point of no return, where my hero will have to battle against his own friends and a bad guy in order to survive and save “the world”.

So let’s get into it!

My book is set in a world similar to ours, with a few changes (changes I’ve made so it would fit better to the world I’ve envisioned). It’s a cross of Science Fiction, Dystopian and a bit of love.

From the beginning, this book has two major plots running simultaneously. My protagonist and his friends spent most of their time trying to defend themselves or to escape, while my hero finds out about his special abilities that someday will help him save “the world”.

When I’ve initially planned this novel out, I had a bit of a hard time outlining all the details for such an action-packed novel, but slowly the details settled in nicely and I could see a better picture of both plots and all the subplots that affect Jack (my hero) in his journey.

Jack has a big goal in mind, which will be far beyond his own survival. He was forced into a situation he didn’t expect and even tried to get out off, until he knew there is no other way except to fight his way out of death and even save as many people, in need, as he can.

Without getting into too many specifics, let’s just say that my main character (and his friends) will be running from death a lot while trying to save themselves and others while trying to stop the law organization that kills hundreds of people in the name of freedom and future survival.

Bit by bit Jack will learn more about his abilities and how he got them, he will seek the help of the scientists who started this project.

Will he get there in time? Are they even still living? Can he really stop the big law organization?

That’s it for now. I really have to stop here before I reveal too much, at least until the next update 😉

Thank you so much for reading ❤
