6 Easy Steps to Motivate Yourself

Motivation is something that I had to work hard to get, it never was an easy task for me, from getting up in the morning to working hard on my personal goals, I always seem to find my way out of things, hehe. But as I grew older and became a bit smarter I realized that there are things I will never be good at, but at most things, I can work hard and use the resources I have around me in order to succeed.

As we are closing in on another year, I worked harder on some things and I found a few easy ways that did help me a lot to get myself motivated and push myself. So I thought as we come closer and closer to the new year, we all could use better skills on how to motivate ourselves to do all the things that we want to do and need to do.

So let’s start 😉

1. Find your emotions behind that task

We all heard this many times before, you need to know your why and understand the emotion behind your wants. I heard this many times as well but I never truly give it a deeper thought. I thought I know my whys but I never truly knew it.

What really helped me understand my why, and understand the emotions behind the things I want to do, was so simple that I don’t know why I never used this tool to motivate myself harder. I took a few minutes (no more than 5-10 minutes) and wrote down why I truly want to publish my book or to do any of things I want to accomplish and after I have all the reasons of why I look at each of them and try to feel the emotions after I achieve these things, but truly trying hard to feel all the emotions after achieving my goals.

This is a simple tool but it helps your brain to understand why are you doing what you doing and by connecting your emotions to your tasks and goals, you are much more likely to show up for them and work harder on them.

2. Break your task to smaller bites

Looking at a huge task is always daunting and scary, but breaking that big goal or task into much smaller bites, helps us feel much more accomplish once we achieve that smaller goal or task and that way we are more likely to continue on and finish that huge goal or task.

For example: If you want to write a book – break it down to chapters – a page – a paragraph – continue to break it down to whatever small task you know you can easily achieve, even in your busiest of days or when you just not feeling it.

3. Inspire yourself

Look at other creators and absorb their inspiration, lol, now I know it sounds a bit weird, but everyone and everything can inspire you. so look at a motivating speaking on youtube, or just a write on youtube (or at other creators), listen to a podcast or read a book, go for a walk. Try and find something in your surroundings that will inspire you and give you the right push you need. There are a lot of things right now in your immediate surroundings that I am sure can inspire you and motivate you, you just need to ask for it and look around to find it.

4. Make it fun

If the task is too daunting and too scary, even after you tried everything else I suggest you try and make it a bit fun.

For example: When I do the dish (And I hate every moment of it, lol), I always put on my headphones and blast upbeat music and I literally dance next to sink while I wash the dishes, hehe… I know… I know… I’m weird. But for me, it helps, lol, a lot.

Try and do something you love while doing something you hate or not looking for so much, or just scared to start.

5. Schedule your tasks and goals

Understanding the why, the emotions, after we broke things down to small bites, inspired ourselves and even made things more fun, we still need to schedule it all in our busy lives and put all of our tasks and goal into a calendar or planner and give everything a deadline, a date that you think you will be done with that task or goal.

Be real with yourself, and know that you can’t really finish writing your entire book in a week, lol, well maybe you can but I know I can’t 😀 So try to think ahead a see with everything that is going on in your life right now and that might be in your life how will you fit your writing?

Look at things as how they truly are and not how you wish it to be on an ideal day, week or month. For me, this was a big lesson I learned this year. I learned that in order to truly make good progress, I need to know how long it will take me with all that is going on or that can be and schedule them all.

6. Use a timer

I am a strong believer in using a timer for a few years now. This by far the best immediate productivity tool I use. I set my timer for 5 minutes and go around an area in my house picking things up and organizing or washing the dishes. I set the timer for 20-30 minutes for a writing session and I use my timer for many more things in my daily routine.

If you want to see how much a minute is truly is, just set a timer and look at how long it takes for the time to pass. so imagine how much time is 5 minutes or 20. You can achieve more when you know that the time is running out, haha. A timer shows you the passing time and that is a very powerful tool, so try it and let me know how it goes 😉

NaNoWriMo 2019

Hey everyone, I hope you are all having a great day ❤

Here in Israel, we are in the midst of 3 big holidays. Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and Succot. Why am I telling you this? Well, it’s because this holiday month will not give me much time to prep for this year’s Nanowrimo but I am still working hard on finishing a few things and trying to outline in many details the second book in the series I am working on.

The first book is still in the editing stage but I am only 1 and a half chapters till the end of this editing stage and then I will continue on to the more detailed edits of Line and copy edits.

Nanowrimo 2019, Coffee n' Notes

Anyways, I am so excited for this year’s Nanowrimo that I’m trying to work every day on a bit more editing the first book and outlining the second book, so I will know what I will be writing about. I also love the new site very much but I didn’t like much the fact that they removed all the writing buddies and now I needed to start over. But the new banners look so amazing, they really do get better with them with each year passing, wow. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 10 years, omg.

I want to try to post more here hopefully, 3 times a week, but not promising anything with the holidays and all, hehe. But I want to try harder because I really miss blogging. At first, I wanted to do Blogtober and I even planned a few posts in bullet form, but after a more realistic outlook of all I need to do this month and the holidays, I figured it was best not to overwhelm myself so I decided on 3 times a week would be sweet for us all 😉

This is a spoiler-free review.

A small disclaimer… I read this book at a very hard time in my life when my mom wasn’t feeling so good and to top it all our beautiful dog Menta passed away, Reading this book not only made this time pass easier as I was truly immersed in the story.

Wow, wow… Wow. I can’t stop saying wow, hehe.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and I can’t wait to know more and read more.

This is a dual point of view story, between Addy and Adriel. Most of the time I can’t fully connect to these types of stories but here it was well made and thought off, that you can feel the characters and see their desires and understand how they work.

The main character Addy is so strong and so relatable, I instantly got invested in her and I enjoyed seeing how the character growth over time. I love how fearless Addy is especially with helping her lost brother Reed, but she herself is dealing with new issues as new things awaken in her and the things she finds about herself only makes her even stronger and better at understanding what is really good dor her. Addy showed her true self in these pages and I was fully connected to her because of that.

Adriel is such a strong and great character as well, that as a fallen angle needs to deal with so much as well but also poove to Addy that he is not the monster she thinks he is. This story cured my reading slump I was in and helped me with the sadness I felt, weird I know… But it’s the truth.

I loved the characters so much, each and every one of them felt so real and so strong in their beliefs, it made the story flow so smoothly and feel so much stronger as I read deeper into the story. They’re so much more I want to know and understand, I need more books by this author 😀

The writing style is on point, it usually takes me a few chapters until I dive deep into a story but here, from the first chapter I was completely in and hooked.

This story has everything you need, pure exciting adventures, angles, and demons, family and love. I think it’s a must book to read in this fall season and a must in every book lover’s TBR ❤

Never Forget Your Ideas Again

Hello everyone, and a happy Wednesday to you all ❤

This post ended up being long (sorry for that), so grab yourself a drink, set the mood 😉 and enjoy reading.

I tend to forget a lot of things, things I was sure my mind will capture but sadly it didn’t. So I learned to write everything down and capture all the things I need to do, want to remember and just ideas that float in my brain. I think we are all experienced at some point, having a great idea (the best idea) pop to our head while we’re doing something, and as soon as we are about to go write it down, the idea is long gone.

Studies show that our brain can hold in our immediate memory bank about 6-7 thoughts and adding more information will just get lost in the sea of thoughts or will get replaced by another item in your memory bank that you held onto from before.

I know it sounds weird but it’s the truth an more so if you are suffering from any memory problems like myself, but still need to function as normal. But there are a few things that can help us all, whether or not you have any memory problems, these tips will help you capture any thought or ideas you wish to capture.

Pick one place for it all

I have many notebooks for a lot of things: I have a planner, a bullet journal, a dream journal, a tarot reading journal and many more. But for capturing our immediate thoughts or ideas I suggest using only one item if it’s a notebook you can carry around with you everywhere or an app on your phone.

There are so many ways and apps today that designed to help you capture ideas like Trello, Google Drive, Evernote, Milanote, Goole Keep and many more… What you choose is up to you. I used them all because I love trying out new ways to improve my work but I always find myself going back to the same tool and for years now I am using Google Keep and I just love it ❤ I have it everywhere and it syncs with my computer, laptop and phone easily and you can add pictures, voice memos, drawings to your text, and even add another person or your team to your specific note.

I also use Milanote for a more visual aspect of my goals and ideas.

Not all ideas and thoughts are made equal, but you should still capture them all

Make it a habit to capture everything that comes through your mind. Ask anyone who really knows me, they will tell you straight away that if it’s not written it doesn’t exist, hehe:D If you do it every time you have an idea and make it your habit, you will be able to focus better and with less stress.

Categorize your ideas 

I have a few categories I add my notes to (like home, recipes, husband, me, my mom, my writing projects, my blog, Instagram, things I want to buy and many more). Adding categories makes things easier to search.

Color Code

Besides categorizing, I also color-code my notes and just by color I will immediately know what the note is about, (Blue is for everything related to home and my husband, Green is my for my mom, red is for writing, yellow is for important, and purple is my blog and social media).

Needs more work or done

What I love most in google keep is the ability to pin the cards that are important to you and you can archive the cards to your “categorized file or label”and this way you can organize your ideas and thoughts in so many ways to help you get the most of your ideas and never lose an important idea.

What I do is: what’s important I pinned-up, what I need to go through is in my home feed, what I archived is all done, every category but my writing, hehe. Once a week I go through them all and see what to keep, organize, or trash.

Revisit – Go Through your notes

Writing your ideas is the perfect way to never lose them but you also should go through them from time to time and revisit those old ideas and see if they still serve you in any way or not.

This is kind of like a kanban board of To Do, Doing and Done. This is not to keep forever and for all eternity, it’s just to help you keep your ideas and your immediate thoughts but also to go through them and work them through.

But Galit, I had a great idea in the shower how do I remember it before it’s all gone?

Well, I know this all too well, hehe. Our best ideas are always coming to us while we in the shower, driving home or even in our dreams. I found the google assistant to work well for me while I’m driving. I am more and more using my google assistant, hehe to make calls, and voice record my ideas while I’m doing other things.

If I’m in the shower and I get an idea I start to elaborate on that idea… Let’s say I got an idea about a book, I see a character doing something… I start asking questions and try to write in my head the idea with as many details as I can. As soon as I get out of the shower I quickly jot down my idea with all the details I could remember, that way the spark of the idea is not gone.

Braindump before you fall asleep

I am especially using the word braindump and nor brainstorm because it’s what we need to do before we fall asleep, more so if you are having trouble falling asleep.

Take 5 to 10 minutes and just write down everything that goes through your mind. Just brain dump your thoughts, your worries, needs and wants, tasks, ideas and everything else that comes to your mind. If doing this every day doesn’t work for you, that’s okay but I still recommend to do this at least 3-4 times a week. You will be able to fall asleep faster and sleep better.

Sweet Dreams

Remembering our dreams is not an easy task, but if you do want to make your creative well even more bountiful, keeping a dream journal will help you not only fight your daily battles more easily but also help you build a creative well that fills up every single night 😀 Especially after you braindump all your worries and ideas of that day/week.

Hello…

Hey everyone, I am so happy to be back and I hope you all having a good day ❤

I missed blogging so much, that I even had a dream about blogging in last night’s dream 😉

I am slowly getting back my groove back and starting doing slow yoga, a bit of tarot and crystals (I missed my crystal so much, hehe), and the most important I got back to my writing/editing and reading.

I am doing different kinds of art or creative endeavors, and I think that’s what made the switch in my brain to finally work on my book as well 😀 I am ready for real-life now and I am ready to work hard again on the things I want and need.

So, I wanted to share this with you so you will know I have not forgotten about you all and I can’t wait to read your posts again 🙂 I missed reading them a lot.

Our Precious Menta Passed Away

Hello everyone, it’s been a while…

Lot’s of things happened on this month and a half I took a break, and if any of you follow me on my Instagram then you already know. The most recent and the most painful by far was that our beautiful dog Menta passed away a week ago.

She died the age of almost 16 years old (Jan was her birthday). I planned a big birthday for her but she didn’t make it. She was such a wonderful, crazy and cute doggie and she will be missed forever.

She passed away at home from lung cancer and it was just heartbreaking to see her go, we wanted more time to play, be with her, saying our goodbyes… But it was too fast.

We still find ourselves calling out to her as we try to live without her but our routines, habits and moments together for so many years, makes it so hard. It’s been a week now, and it still hurts a lot. I call out to her so that she will cuddle up with me, or to give her food or just to see how happy she acted as we entered home and we called out her name.

I am so happy that I was able to be with her in her last moments, especially when things went to the worst fast. Just hours before she was doing okay (not great but really okay) and a few hours later she was gone. We truly thought we had more time with her. The vet called to tell us that the blood results came back and that she has lung cancer that was very aggressive and that with the treatment she will only have another week. We planned to go the vet the next day or after that to give her the injection but she passed away that evening.

I am so relieved she didn’t suffer much and at the end, she passed away at home in my arms as I calmed her down. But even now, a week after her death still hurts so much. And even now as I write this post and tears pouring down my face for missing her so much, I am still so grateful to have all these big and small moments with her for 15 years.

A Bit Too Much

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a good day and having a great start to July ❤

I will start by saying that I am sorry for the sudden MIA for almost the entire month of June. From my mom not feeling well and starting to get better, my dog that is feeling sick right now and my husband’s surgery… Life is a bit too much right now.

I am mostly feeling stressed and mentally exhausted to do anything and even blogging, that is why I will continue my blogging vacation just for a bit longer, not too long I hope.

I just need to refresh and get back to some sort of a normal daily living before I will start blogging. So I will be back in about a week or two and start getting back to my normal routine 😀

Workout Your Creative Muscle

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a good day ❤

As you might already know through my previous posts that it’s been a while since I wrote or edited any fiction word. Only in the Writer’s Log series while I worked hard on my blog, my own mental health and working on decluttering our home to simplify our lives… Only then the fiction words started to flow again. As if something was clogging my creative mood or creative flow, and when it happened I suddenly stopped being creative. When we started to declutter and figure out what we really want, I knew that the creative flow will arrive and it did.

Doing that may help to bring back my creativity but it also didn’t do much good. I should have workout my creative muscle, even if I didn’t feel much like writing or didn’t trust my words.

However, in this Writer’s Log, I learned that writing is just like any other muscle we try to workout on, and I should treat it that way. So I started showing up for my work and try to workout that creative muscle I’ve neglected for far too long, every day.

I may not publish a book until I’m 50 (which isn’t that far away, hehe), but I am sure that if I will keep this up and keep working out this writing muscle I may publish soon enough.

So how to workout that creative muscle?

Show up for yourself

As I said in my previous post: How To Show Up For Yourself, just by showing up will do more wonder than thinking or beating yourself up for it. I started showing up for my work. I opened my laptop and stared at the words (which I hated to the bone) and then I stared some more and after half an hour of not feeling it and not writing a single word, I closed my laptop until the next day and the day after that. Sooner or later words came out (good and bad, but they came out) and soon enough I started to love what was coming out and my creative muscle grew a bit 😉

Have a realistic plan

I used to plan my writing day, even when I had a busy and extremely exhausting day with my mom and from doing things around the house, which only led me to feel more disappointed and more aggravated about the entire thing.

But I’m the real blame here, I should have never plan to write 10K, 5K or even 1K in days like yesterday or days like we used to have. In days like these, all I need to plan is how I will rest, eat and heal myself (body and soul) but not write. Now for some writing can be a great escape of life so they can write even when life is stressful but for me it’s just like any other muscle in your body, if you overstress the entire body nothing will work right and more so my writing will be just shit (sorry for the language, hehe).

So having a realistic view of your life and a realistic plan of your writing day/hour is very important and will help you a lot out on exercising that writing muscle.

Nourish your creativity

Like on any workout you need to nourish your body so you can actually do that workout. Creativity is the same. You need to nourish your mind in order to make your creativity flow. All you need to do is what makes you relax and fill up that creativity well.

For me, what works is Reading, blogging, decluttering and organizing my desk, drawing, planning, looking at some pictures, and just walking around.

Enjoy that workout, make it fun 😉

By doing all these little things that each helps a lot, your creative well will feel up again and you will be ready to do some creative writing.

What works great for me is doing some writing sprints by myself or with others, journaling, free writing, doing some cool challenges (like I’m about to do over on my Patreon, go check it out). Doing things that will bring the fun back to my writing process and fill that creative well for a long while.

All these little things help so much with exercising that writing/creative muscle so much but I think the most important and will keep saying it as that is my new lesson this year, lol and that is: Show up for yourself and for your work – never give up.

Writer’s Log: How To Show Up For Yourself (+Happy Birthday To Me)

Hello everyone, and happy Saturday to you all ❤

I can’t believe we are at the end of this Writer’s Log series, wow… This was such a fun series to do (I hope you enjoyed it too) and this last post falls right on my birthday week 😉 is an amazing way of finishing the Writer’s Log ❤

My birthday was on Thursday 6.6 and it was a very normal day at home, we didn’t do anything special as I mostly like being at home, hehe. But turning this much was a huge change that started to ripple its effect on me. overall it was a good birthday, I’ve received a lot of birthday wishes that made me very happy and I got to rest a lot – which made this birthday just perfect, hehe 😀

For the last (almost) 5 years of blogging I’ve learned so much on how to be more consistent with what I choose to do and just by showing up to do it. But I’ve learned so much while doing this series of the writer’s Log (almost 2 months), more than all the 5 years of blogging, lol, wow.

I’ve made this series to build up my passion for blogging again while I’m in constant chaos around me and I am so happy I was able to bring that spark of joy and passion to this little corner of ours. But even more than that, I was able to bring back the conversation again, something that I’ve missed more than I thought I did. You showed me just how much I do miss writing, blogging and sharing my boring life with you all, hehe 😀

But you showed me that the conversations that made their way in the comments were something I truly missed here and I am looking forward to our conversations 😉

Now, let’s get back to our post…

Here my 3 tips on how to show up for yourself and do what you truly want to do:

Know what you want (your goal) and do it for a short time

This helped me a lot, to just have a true idea of how I see this happen. Saying that I wanted to try this but only for a small period of time. (It was 14.4-6.6, so 54 days) So I set my goal to try to blog mostly every day for 54 days. Now I was sure I won’t be able to blog every single day due to all the other things I need to do in my life, but I did try my hardest 😀 and this brings me to the other tip…

Set a realistic goal

As I said in my previous tip, set a realistic goal for yourself and a very realistic timeline. Just by knowing what you think you are capable you automatically can predict if the goal you set for yourself will really work. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to post every single day but in my head, I was aiming for about 3-4 times a week to meet my goal.

There were weeks that I was able to meet this goal but there were weeks that I couldn’t and this happens but I wasn’t bitting myself up for it because I knew that life could do that but I still tried every day. This leads to my final and most important tip which is…

Show up for yourself and for your work

Showing up for yourself, which means if you chose to blog every day, sit down next to your computer and write some posts, or going through your pics… every day. Even if you don’t post every day, you are still showing up for your passion/work and you are doing what you need and want to do. If it’s research, writing, editing. You are there, trying to make it and trying to work on that blog posts. Just by showing up you are already ahead of the game.

This is something very new that I’ve learned by actually doing. I always knew this rule but I let life push me where it went so in most cases I never did what I wanted to do. Now this series changed my pov (point of view) on the fact of just showing up

Saying goodbye to this series feels weird but I enjoyed doing this and I’ve learned so much. I can’t wait for the next one 😉

Writer’s Log: June Goals

Hello everyone, and a wonderful Sunday to you all ❤

Wow, I’ve just noticed that we are closing in on the end of the Writer’s Log series, only 2-3 more posts… Wow 😀

So I think you may already know but I failed in 2 goals in May, but I am so happy that I had the chance to write, declutter a lot of things, edit and meditate… Overall, it was a good month. I still hope to do better this month 🙂

Waking up at 5:15 am

LOL, I can already hear your laughter in my mind. But I still want to try… Waking up at 4 am didn’t go so well, so I hope that waking up at 5:15 will be a bit easier 🙂

Write 15K

I am slowly getting back to my writing and to my editing which feels amazing. I am more determined and much more willing to give up on everything in order to just write, edit and finish these books. So as you’ve seen in my Building a Road Map (5-Year Plan), I didn’t plan on writing at all up until June, because I wanted to focus more on decluttering and organizing but now… Now I am ready to get back and write and my goal is to write 15K.

Finish Reading

I’ve still haven’t finished reading the books in my May TBR, so I want to focus on that as well and finish reading those books.

Keep Decluttering

I want to also focus on decluttering our home, as I am far from finished, hehe but I will do it slowly as I am more focused on my writing this month. I want to finish decluttering our big white closet this month.

Blogging

After my birthday and after we will be finished the Writer’s Log series, I will know better on how much to post in June. But if you want you can comment below if you liked me posting almost every day (and work more on every day) or 3 times a week or less.

Summer is here already with days of 38 degrees Celsius and we are yet officially entered summer. I want to pick up journaling again because this summer I don’t know why but it’s becoming much harder for me to function in this heat, and I know that as we push further to the hotter days of 45-49 degrees Celsius, I know that my illness will act up and I am afraid I will lose my memory again, so I want to make sure that I am well organized and start journaling now my every day, so if something would happen, I will already have a good reference to look at and not get to stressed.

Well, that is it for my goals for this month, there are a few hard ones and a few easy goals, but I hope I will be able to achieve most of them 😀
