Last Minute Prep

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a good day. For me, it’s morning right now as I write to you and my day is already planned to be a very busy day of last minute prep for NaNo and some house chores, hehe. I hope your day is looking better and more relaxed 🙂 Btw, if you want a writing buddy, I would be happy to be yours – Add me if you want here

Let’s take this second to breathe in, lol… NaNo is only 1 day away 😀

Going Crazy

I really wanted to write a last-minute prep and some tips to help you get started and overcome the blank page and start the first day of Nano with good energy and feeling of being prepared as possible. If you are trying NaNoWriMo for the first time or you do it for years, sometimes we get overwhelmed really fast… So we all can use a little help and I am here to try and make things a bit easier 😉

Organize your thoughts

Take a look at your outline and try to finish it, or add more details before NaNo starts. If you don’t like writing an outline, write some notes on how your novel will start and end and more importantly, what do you think might happen in the middle of the story. This way you won’t get stuck and you always have something to go back to and that will help you going through that middle burned out.

Writing

Sleep

Try to go to sleep early today and don’t go for that midnight writing. You will be exhausted the next day and you already be behind on your word count. Take this night to sleep well and relax as much as you can, so when you wake up the next day, you will be ready to conquer the day and write all those words.

Make a last-minute commitment

Say to yourself and to everyone around you that the upcoming month you won’t be able to be as social as before. Make a commitment that you are doing your best to finish your novel and win Nanowrimo. Also, go the NaNoWriMo site and make your announcement there as well 🙂

Plan your writing but also plan your breaks

This one is the most simple but still so hard to be committed to, lol. But in order to really finish that Nano project, you must schedule your writing in blocks of time, every day both for your writing and for your breaks.

Last but not least… Stay calm, embrace the madness and have fun ❤

Writing

Hope this last minute prep helped in any way…. What are you doing on your last day before Nano starts?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

7 Tip To Survive and Win NaNoWriMo

So… We are a week away from the start of NaNoWriMo and I thought this will be the best time to share with you some of the tips and tricks that really keep me motivated and win (Well… Most of the time anyway, lol, sometimes life must be first and last).

Btw, If you want you a writing buddy, you can add me here and feel free to add me on Twitter as well, and we can do some word sprints 😉 Remember that this is not how you normally go about writing a book, but NaNoWriMo is about the community, quality and fun, and this change of pace helps a lot sometimes… Just remember to have fun ❤

Okay, let’s start with some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years of doing NaNoWriMo 🙂

Plan your time

A planner is your friend here, on those busy days plan some 5 – 15 min of writing. Now on those days that you have a bit more time on your hands, try to plan more writing time an hour or two and you will see that even though you are a bit behind one day, the next day you can be in the lead 😀

You have 50K words to write a month and even though the estimate word count per day is 1667 word, this is not the law – You can write 500 a day and the next day you can write 4K. What matters is the finish line.

Word sprints

These really help to get your brain fluids run smoothly, hehe and twitter NaNo Sprints is a really good place to find many people doing sprints of 5 – 20 minutes of fast writing. It makes you write fast and not think of what are you writing and if it’s the right thing to write or not… You just write.

Writing, NanoWrimo

Planner or Pantser

I am a strong believer in an outline, and I really think that a well-developed outline can keep the darkness of a writer’s block away. So take this week and write your idea – outline it as much as you can and write a sentence or two about your project.

Food and Drinks

Yummy food both healthy and not so healthy is always have been a great part of NaNoWrimos and a great part of my writing process, lol. Pick a few of your favorite food items, but try to put some healthy choices in there as well.

Junk food, NanoWrimo

Books, Movies, and Tv

I really recommend reading a book, see a Tv show or a movie that really inspires you to write and gives you a nudge to go back to your project ❤ I recently saw the great movie Stranger Than Fiction and it was so much fun to watch it, perfect movie to see before NaNo 😉

Kill the inner editor – Kill it!

Never edit as you go. This is not a regular writing session, where you can edit – Editing will only slow you down and even make you doubt yourself. So leave all the errors, red lines and other things that your brain will try to convince you they must be addressed – Don’t listen and keep writing.

Be kind to yourself

If by any chance you are getting behind and starting to feel frustrated, don’t beat yourself up for that. Take a deep breath, go for a walk or do your chores and when you come back, and keep writing. I know the goal is to win but it’s also to have fun with your writing and getting used to writing. So don’t be harsh on yourself – You can always write more words in those other days when you have more time.

That is all for today, I hope you found a tip or more to help you win Nanowrimo. Do you have any writing tips to share with us, that might help everyone be more prepared for Nano?

Embrace the madness that is NaNoWriMo and have fun ❤

Can’t wait for November to start 😀

Fun, Excited, NanoWrimo

My NaNoWriMo Prep 2017

NaNoWriMo2017

Happy Sunday to you all, I hope you are all resting and recharging your energies for the week to come 🙂

For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it’s a National Novel Writing Month (which takes place every year in November), where a bunch of people all around the world tries to write a novel of 50K words in 30 days. Nano is only 10 more days away (according to my sidebar counter hehe) and with the huge holiday we had here, and my mom’s doctor appointments, this month will fly by even faster.

This will be my 9th or 10th year of doing NaNo and even though I had to quit last year due to my mom’s health issues, I do hope that this year I will be able to finish.

I did make some great tips and NaNo prep a while back, and you can find them here and here. But this year I really wanted to share with you what I am doing these last days and how I prepare myself for NaNo (even with a busy schedule).

NaNoWriMo

So here are the main things I do to prepare myself for NaNo

Writing an outline

If you don’t have any idea what to write, just brainstorm ideas and pick one that you liked the most 🙂

For me, I know what I am writing… So I am doing a full detailed outline, as detailed as possible. I guess that this outline will be around 30-40 pages, lol. I have already started today, so I have 10 days to finish my outline and prepare everything else I might need.

Cleaning and organizing my space

My desk tends to get messy, a lot and very fast, lol. So I am going to clean my entire space, which is our spare room where I have my desk, our washer and dryer, our closets, printer and a few more bits here and there. So, I need to reorganize it and clean it. Making sure I have an inviting space to write in.

Writing a few pages

In a few days, I will start writing just a few pages, this way I will have a good place to start from and I won’t get overwhelmed. It really helps me see my project better and what I want to write, so when NaNo starts I am not stuck and can immediately continue writing. It’s just helping me not fall into the writer’s block trap 😀

Picking up a nice notebook, pens, and even an app

Usually, before NaNo starts, I pick a good notebook and my favorite pens and I take them with me everywhere in my bag. However, due to a busy schedule with my mom, I learned to use my phone for writing – a lot.

I love to clear out some space on my phone’s screen that only has my writing app and a timer (or the widgets) and I choose that screen as my home screen. This helps me to see my writing all the time on my phone and keeps me motivated to write and not get stuck.

Embrace the madness!

I starting to accumulate lots Coffee, candy, tea, water and healthy (and unhealthy) snacks 😀

I loved sharing with you how I prepare for NaNo and I hope it helped in any way 🙂 If you enter NaNo, how do you prepare for that? Share with us what are you going to do, in order to prepare yourself for NaNoWriMo 🙂

Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to add me as a NaNo buddy ❤

Writing Ritual Tag

Hello everyone, I hope you are feeling well and having a wonderful day 😀 For me, this month is already full of doctors appointments (for my mom), long holiday and almost no time for myself and to write. However, from next week things will change a lot when my husband starts his school, and I will have 3 whole days to myself… to write, edit and put a little dent in my projects, lol.

More than a month ago I watched the lovely author Kim Chance on her YouTube channel and I saw this cute tag and I knew that I have to do this tag 🙂 Btw if you don’t know Kim Chance or her upcoming book – Keeper, then go visit her channel and say hello ❤

Questions for the Writing Rituals Tag

When do you write? (time of day, day of week)

Well, I mostly love to write at night but life won’t have it. So… I write in the morning when I am all alone in the house up until the sun is high up in the sky. I don’t have a specific day to write, every day or time that I get to write is a gift for me ❤

How do you seclude yourself from the outside world?

That is so easy. I love listening to the Rainy Mood app (and site) ❤ I’ve been using it for years now. I also try to write when I am alone in the house, that way I can write tons of words without any stress or interruptions.

How do you review what you wrote the previous day?

I usually use two ways: I select everything and let my Windows or Chrom speak what I wrote out loud and take notes. I also love reading what I wrote out loud with the right emotion (if I read a dialog), like actors going through their script.

What song is your go-to when you’re feeling uninspired?

Hmm… This one is hard, as I don’t listen to music while writing, but when I hear rain outside or just rain on that site, It puts me in the right mood for writing, lol, always!

Rain, Coffee n' Notes

What do you always do (i.e. listen to music, read, watch youtube, etc.) when you find yourself struggling with writer’s block?

Writing block is hard at times, but what works best for me is to write little poems, watch youtube on writing and on books, trying to write new ideas and new characters that maybe will inspire me more and free me of whatever stopped me from writing before.

I love going back to my favorite books and re-read them again to get the energies back.

I also take a look at my outline and try to find what made me feel stuck. Maybe there are things that aren’t working for my story and I will need to change them.

What tools do you use when you’re writing?

This is easy. I use my computer (word document) if I can. Sometimes, and sadly this happened a lot lately, lol, I use my phone (google keep), I use Rainy Mood app or site, pen, and paper (I mean a huge white paper that covers a huge part of my desk, I love it).

What’s the one thing you can’t live without during a writing session?

Pen and paper. I love my huge white papers (the kind that kids use to paint on, lol). If I am out and I am using my phone, then I must use the rainy mood with headphones.

How do you fuel yourself during your writing session?

Coffee, tea, snacks and more coffee. Wait… Did I say coffee already?

Coffee n' Notes

How do you know when you’re done writing?

Well… Here I really agree with Kim on that, I try to ask myself if I feel good with what I wrote and if there was good progress. If the answer is yes then I know I am ready to finish for today. But, from time to time if I must I will use a word count, page or chapter goal, but I try not to do that a lot.

That is all for this tag, this was such a fun tag to do 😀

I will tag a few people, but if you wish to do it yourself, consider yourself – Tagged!  (don’t forget to link your tag in my comments so I will see your answers).

My 4 NaNoWriMo Tips

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) has started (yay) and what made this even more special, rain has finally arrived. Rain is here

Brainstorm

Take a bit of time to just brainstorm your idea. Write how you see the story starts and how it might end. Knowing how it will end, will help you when you get a bit stuck (this mostly happen, somewhere in the middle of the month). After you have the beginning and end, throw some adventure on the hero’s way 😀 This is by far my favorite thing to do besides the writing itself of course, lol.

Silence your editor

Yes, we all know this one and it’s hard not to stop and edit that word, or that annoying scene. But don’t! Leave your wonderful editor aside and remember, now you just write, nothing more. Just write.

Write in short bursts

Most nanowrimos can tell you that writing in short burst of 15-25 minutes, can truly help you write faster and just put you the right mood for writing. There’s nothing else in the world but your writing in those 15-25 minutes. Here you can use nano words sprints on Twitter, use an app like the Pomodoro or just put a timer on. This just makes things more manageable and less overbearing.

Community

Nano is not just a sprint to the finish line, it’s also lots of fun. There is so much power in the Nano community, that I urge you to look on Their site for some buddy friends, on twitter and all the social media, you are following. I love the Nano community so much ❤

floral

Enjoy this time, get inspired and have fun with your writing.

That’s all for now and I will keep writing and update throughout NaNoWriMo. I will not be doing nano every day, but I still hope to achieve the 50K goal. I did put in my planner some writing day, as I call them. So far today my word count is 3K of writing and 4 pages of edit 😀 I guess it’s ok for now, lol.

How was your first day of Nano?

As always thank you so much for reading ❤

The Writer’s Life Tag

Happy Wednesday everyone  ❤ I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

If you have noticed I’ve changed the theme of my blog, I needed a little change and tweaked it a bit (go spot the changes  ;)). I am so happy with how it came out and I would love to read your thoughts, so don’t be shy to comment below  ❤

For this tag… I saw The Writer’s Life Tag at Kim from Kim Chance on YouTube and I loved it and really wanted to give it a try. So without further ado, let’s start with the tag  😀

Questions

Write-fuel: What do you eat or drink while writing?
Coffee (decaf) and water. I mostly don’t eat anything while writing.

Write-sounds: What do you listen to while writing?
I think I’ve said it here and there, I love (LOVE) the Rainy Mood website. I use it a lot in my writing, but when I write fight scenes, I love listening to heavy metal (yep), gaming music and Kpop 🙂

Write-vice: What is your biggest writing distraction?
Life. When My mom needs me, or something happens to her, my sweet hubby and all the things I need to do around the house, to keep it not looking like a pigsty.

Write-horror: What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you while writing?
As most of you know, I’ve lost 10 years of work (3 books) and I never found it (didn’t back it up and cry so much). Don’t forget to back up your work.

Write-joy: What’s the best thing that ever happened to you while writing?
The best ever for me is to be able to sit down and write. But if I don’t count that, then the best feeling I had with writing is typing the words The End. It is the best feeling ever! I also had a wonderful moment when I was all alone in the house, not much to worry about and I wrote 10K a day (it was amazing, just heaven).

Write-crew: Who you communicate with or not communicate with while writing?
Sadly, I don’t have any writing buddies (wish I had). I have a few people I can talk to but I can’t call them writing buddies. One of the goals I have for the next quarter is to find some nice and good writing buddies  ❤

Write-secret: What your secret to success and your biggest writing flaw?
The #1 “secret” for writing, I think it’s determination. I know that things are going slow for me, but never in my life, I wanted to give up. I write when I’m sick, when I’m tired and when I don’t feel like writing. I am left with so little time, that when I finally have the time to write, I just write. I also love planning my work. If I outline the novel or even a scene, I know I will not get lost. Outlining really helps me a lot.
My writing flaw is that I can’t leave a scene or a page if it’s not written the way I want it to be. That is why I edit a lot more than “normal”, lol.

Write-spiration: What inspires you? Or what makes you productive?
I don’t have any special thing that makes me productive. I love to write so much and I barely have a moment to write, so when I do… I just write like a maniac, lol. I try to compensate for days of not writing and write until my fingers are numb.
An inspiration for me is, everywhere. From what I see, a book, a moment that something happens, a voice, you… everything  ❤ However it mostly comes from my weird mind, my dreams and from my over-imaginative mind, lol.

Write-peeve: What is one thing you do or other writers do that’s annoying?
The only thing I can think about is that my mood is related to my writing. If I did well and wrote a lot I am happy, relaxed and almost high, lol. But if I haven’t written anything or the scene I’ve written didn’t go as I wanted, I am very restless and annoyed.
About other writers? I really can’t think of anything. Each writer does what is best for him/her and his/her community  🙂

Write-words: Are you willing to share something you’ve written?
Yes. In the newsletter I’ve sent out yesterday, I added a little teaser of the book I am editing right now ELE and I hope you liked it.

There you have it, a look into my writer’s life  😀

This was such a fun tag to do and I hope you enjoyed reading it  ❤ I will not tag anyone to do this tag, but if you feel like give it try, go for it (you are considered tagged by me) and don’t forget to send a link of your tag my way  🙂

Thank you so much for reading  ❤

So You Want to Self Publish

Such a wonderful post about Self-Publish and a must read for anyone who thinks of going this road 🙂

...and then there was Sarah

being-a-good-writer.jpegI am often asked some variant of the question: “I’ve written a book. How do I self-publish it?” The question, as well as the answer, can feel overwhelming. Certainly whenever I’m asked, I often think, where do I start? What level of detail do I share? How much of my time can I give to assisting?

Time is unfortunately a commodity I have very little of nowadays, but I also love to help others, especially those serious about pursuing their creative endeavors. This article attempts to achieve that balance.

What This Is: The basics to get someone started in publishing, to get their feet wet. To literally get a book for sale and ready to market. Things you need to know before you publish, and the places you can go to do so.

What This Is Not: An all-inclusive guide to self-publishing. There’s no way I could cram 5+ years…

Hello everyone, it’s Thursday. Can you smell the weekend? I can’t wait for the weekend to start.

Today it is time to set new Quarterly Goals for April-Jun, I hope this time I will do better (much better). If you want to see how I did on my last Quarterly Goals, check it out here 🙂

For this quarter I also have a lot of goals that I want to accomplish, a few more important than others, but nevertheless goals that I want to reach.

I hope to accomplish at least half of them, if not more. I also hope to finish all my ‘Writer’s Goals’ by the end of June.

Goals

What are your goals for the new month/s? Don’t forget to set some goals for your project and keep them close to you, mine are on my phone on a widget (trust me, it helps).

Quarterly Goals Recap

Hello everyone, and Happy Monday to you all 🙂

The time has come! Time to review my quarterly goals and find out if I was a huge success or a big F (for failure).

If you are not familiar with these Quarterly goals, I’ll give you a little background. I found the idea over at a You-tuber, and a wonderful Author, by the name of Jenna Moreci 🙂

The idea is to list 10-20 goals for the next three months. This way you will be more focused on your goals and not watch TV or in my case, I won’t be gaming as much as I want

If I accomplish my goals then I am amazing and I can say with a clear mind that I am the queen of the world, lol (or maybe not), but if I fail then I get to publicly say that I have failed, yay me. Sounds fun, right?

If you wanna see the original post of my Quarterly Goals and How I have done throughout these three months in more detail, I will link them here:

Quarterly Goals

January Update

February Update

March Update (Kinda)

So, let’s start to look at my goals and see if I did well or not:

  1. Buy new boxes.
  2. Organize things in the boxes.
  3. Finish with the revising.  (Happy Dance)
  4. Have a date night with hubby once a week (already doing this <3). Half/Half Well for two months it went amazing, but then March came and everything stopped.
  5. Organize my Mom’s things.
  6. Organize writing room.
  7. Outline the new project.
  8. Write 150 pages. No! I am at page 138.
  9. Find my F* lost book. Finally found the notes and already organized them into binders.
  10. Write at least 8 blog posts a month. Half/Half Well I was great for the first two months, but March had different plans for me, lol 😀
  11. Post more on my social media. No!
  12. Clean up my Twitter. It looks better, but I still have tons of work.
  13. Change Covers/Banners/Themes (for social media & blog). It looks so pretty and I love it 😀 Go see if you haven’t yet 🙂
  14. Clean & organize my blog. No! Done a few (little) changes and cleaned things up, but on March I have done nothing.
  15. Eat healthier (2-3 veggies/fruits a day). LOL, No! With all the stress, I ate mostly junk food 😦
  16. Drink more water (1.5-3 liters a day). No! Drank mostly diet coke (I know…) 😦
  17. Walk more. LOL, NO! Omg. This one is a huge fat NO! With everything that was going on, I didn’t even try. I was mostly too exhausted physically and mentally to start any workout.
  18. Cook at least 3 healthy meals a week. Half/Half For the first two months, I was relatively okay, but on March a huge NO!
  19. Reconnect with friends IRL (so hard for me). Sadly No!
  20. Take some pictures of hubby and me and print them out. Nope!
  21. Buy new simple frames and put those picture in them. No! Forgot all about this one, lol.
  22. Follow blog/social media stats.
  23. Reach 700 followers on Twitter (would love some help in this) Thank you so much to you all 😀 I have reached my goal and now I’m at 717 (yay).
  24. Research some things for an awesome giveaway (started). Done and done. now all I need are a few little things and I hope to hold this Giveaway on June

So, let’s see how I did

If I am not mistaken I managed to accomplish a bit over half of my goals (13.5). So it’s still a huge fat failure for me! However, I am happy of a few of the things I was able to accomplish in my writing ❤

So I am not totally ashamed of my failure, lol, but I hope to do much better in my next Quarterly goals 😀

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

January Update

Happy Tuesday to all my fellow bloggers and readers, I hope you are having a nice day and amazing week 🙂

If you remember I have done a bit over a week ago, a post about my Quarterly Goals, however, I did miss posting these Monthly Update (a lot), so I thought why not start again 😀

Btw, my computer is still not responding, freezing and acting up so much, that I can’t even write a simple blog post on it. It’s not in the budget to buy a new one right now so for now, I am mostly writing and reading your lovely posts over my tablet and phone. It’s hard but at least, I can do something.

As the new year started and the first month has ended (wow, where did January went?) I wanted to do a monthly feature of a monthly update. I used to do this last year, so if you want to walk down memory lane, then here is last year’s January Update 😀

Writing

  • Written 20 pages in my current manuscript (Not great, but okay. I will do better).

Having no computer makes writing a lot harder, but I am writing as much as I can on my tablet and phone. So far I haven’t looked at my word count and I am so happy about it 🙂 It helped me focus better on my goals (who new) 😀

Editing

  • Finished revising Immortal Earth (Book 1 of The Earth Legacy Series). Finally got to those blessed words “The End” and not wanting to burn the entire manuscript, lol.
  • Edited 10 more pages of I.E. Making it a total of 45 edited pages (mostly line editing before I give it to a copy editor).

Sadly here, I don’t have much to share. Again, having no computer or printer makes things harder but, I did edit a few pages on my phone and tablet (I can’t tell you just how hard and annoying it is, lol).

I’m a bit disappointed with myself that I haven’t made more progress here, but I hope I will get used to the editing on my tablet or phone and maybe it will make the process easier (wish me luck).

Blogging

  • Monthly Blog posts: 8 (Yay me) 😀
  • Read only a few blog posts.

Here I am somewhat proud that I kept to my monthly goal of 8 posts, but I am also a bit disappointed that I’ve missed an entire week of blogging due to a hectic week.

I did manage to finish reading all the blog posts I wanted of a few bloggers these couple of days, but I still have a few more bloggers on my list to go through.

Author, Business

Here, I made a bit of a progress, lol (Yay, feeling like a grown up, lol).

  • I updated most of my Social Media covers so they will look clean & better 😉
  • I wrote the query letter and listed out all the publishers I wanted.
  • I also registered for CreateSpace for the new WIP, that will be self-published and started to see what I can afford to do, what not and all the how’s, lol.
  • I have a huge giveaway coming up and I already started working on it 😉
  • I started accepting questions over on Tumblr so feel free to ask me anywhere you want, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and at Coffee n’ Notes. I got so much (mostly anonymous) questions and it’s just so fun going through them and answer, so feel free to ask me anything
  • I cleaned up my Monthly Newsletter 🙂 Btw if you haven’t signed up yet… What are you waiting for? lol. I also changed it a bit, as I started doing something new that you will see in the March Newsletter. That is why the January Newsletter wasn’t sent out (sorry for that). I will send out February Newsletter as planned 😉
  • I also searched for cover artists and editors. So far I liked 3 from my list. If you know any good and not too expensive editor and cover artists feel free to let me know

Reading, Books

  • I started reading again (Yay), I missed reading so much. I read much slower than before but I hope it will go faster again, soon.

phew

Overall I think I have done okay, but I still need to are needed. What do you think? Should I get a “well done” pat on the back? Or not 😀

How was your month? Did you accomplish a few of your goals? and what are your goals for February?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤
