5 Steps To Writing Amazing Fiction

Hey everyone, I hope you are having a great week ❤ It’s almost weekend 😀

For me, it was a bit busy start to the week, but overall I am happy that I can do all the things I want right now. I still wish I had put some more time block for my editing but I’m playing with my schedule to see where I can fit it best so that I can edit more. My goal is to edit about 20K this quarter so I need to schedule more time for that.

But this site/app Notion is truly a gift when it comes to scheduling and working on my goals. My only wish for this app is to have a google calendar embedded in it, lol. But I am working with what it got and so far it goes well. If you want to get better at organizing your work and your life check it out because it’s a great tool to use and it’s free 😀

Over the years I have collected a few great ways to write fiction and not get stuck, so I thought I would share them with you as well 🙂

Going from, end to start

This rule is good for any type of fiction you might want to write. Knowing the ending can help you so much with understanding where your character will be along its journey, from start to finish. And, you will have an easier time plotting and outlining your story. Working backward always helped me when I got stuck with my story so I started working this way all the time.

Flawed characters are the new perfection

Characters are just like us, even in a fictional story. No one is perfect so why write a perfect character? Perfect is boring and most of the time not worth my time to continue reading. But flawed characters are amazing and perfect in their own broken way. They make the story much more engaging and interesting.

Struggles, struggles, and more struggles

Give your characters as many struggles you can think of. force them to confront their fears, battle with their weaknesses and struggles, break their spirit, lol. After that, find more ways to play with your character, hehe. Struggle in life is what makes us who we are, that’s what builds our inner strength and that’s what eventually gives us the motivation and the will power to push through those struggles and come out of it, hopefully, better and stronger.

Know the why

This is super and most important and I talked about it in my podcast and wrote about it in another post as well, knowing and understanding why this story matter to us and why we want to write it is the key to writing a great story. But you must also know your character’s why as well. Why your character wants to go where she/he/they need to go. Not just because you want your character to go as the author. People will enjoy your story more if they knew the character’s why. Now you don’t need to simply write it down in the story, lol, but you do need your character to know and understand. Your characters drive the story and their understanding of why they do the things they do will make their action powerful to the reader and more relatable.

Deadlines

Not everyone likes deadlines or alarms (me encluded), however, putting a deadline on your project is a key to finishing it. I only recently had learned the true importance of a realistic deadline. You must look at the end result of your project and start going backward with each step you will need to do to accomplish that project. Each milestone will go towards your end result, like finishing your novel. Each small milestone will have its own realistic deadline, that way you will always see your end goal, but also you will be reminded daily of all your smaller milestones in a way that you can achieve them.

What tips and hacks do you use to write great stories?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

5 Lessons I’ve Learned In 2019

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you celebrated the start of the new year and the start of a new decade 🙂

My husband is sick so we didn’t celebrate much but we did grab some yummy take out with wine and enjoyed each other’s company and celebrate the new year at home.

I wanted to publish this at the start of the new year because I wanted to go through what I’ve learned in 2019 before I go after the things I want to accomplish in 2020. It’s like a small review of the year 🙂

Setting the right goals

Now I know this sounds weird, as I’ve always was a person of goals and to-dos and I review my goals every day, week, month and year. So why this is even in this list you might ask? Well, it’s because this year and more so in the last quarter of the year, life slapped me in the face and made me learned once and for all, lol. The universe (or God, whatever you believe in) tends to show us what we need to learn and sometimes if we don’t pay much attention it shows us more harshly.

This last quarter I’ve learned to put my priorities first but also set smart goals and not just goals but I’ve set the right objectives and tasks that go along with my big goal (vision). Something so small, but I never broke down my goals to such small bites, I always thought that my small tasks would be enough but they weren’t, for me at least.

I am explaining this in great detail, in my upcoming episode of Writer’s Life Club Podcast, on Jan 6th (Due to a small delay, I’ve pushed the episode to Jan, 8th – Sorry), so be sure to listen to it if you want to learn more about setting the right goals for your success.

Letting go

I have a hard time letting go, especially of the people I love if they are friends or family, letting go is very hard for me. These past two months I was struggling with this a lot, as again the universe didn’t like it that I didn’t learn from the first time, I needed to let go but this year when the moment came and I was confronted with the same bad attitude and the same struggle. This year I could breathe through this and slowly I am letting go of the things and the people in my life that are no longer good for me.
I still love them and will love them forever, but I guess that our journey is coming to the end, and even though I am sad that this even happened I am now ready to let those things and people go and be free from the guilt of holding on so tightly on things I no longer need.

See my needs

This goes well with my first point, but this is also something I’ve learned how important is to put my needs and my wants on the list as well next to all my other important to do. Like having a well-cooked meal and not just takeouts, meditating to calm me down when life is too overwhelming and all the things that my body needs and my soul.
This was a very hard lesson for me to learn but I am slowly getting better at it, so I guess it’s a working progress. Basically do more self-care and enjoy the quiet time more.

Learning from my failures

Failure is not the enemy as I thought of it all these years, failure is a way for us to get better, stronger and smarter. Failure the universe’s way to make us confront our fears and push through them, like a racking ball. With the understanding failure that it isn’t an enemy but a friend is a great lesson, I’ve learned in 2019. I learned to see my daily wins but also to see what I didn’t do and do even just a bit better tomorrow, or the next day.
I can try and do a bit better, in baby steps and try to work more in smaller sprints, or on smaller tasks.
I can always do a bit better than the day before and this brings me to the last lesson I’ve learned in 2019 and that is having the right tools and this goes well with setting the right goals.

Having the right tools

I love planners, notebooks, bullet journals, apps, and everything that can help me schedule my time and see my goals. Over the years I tried too many tools, some helped more, some helped less, but none of them helped me as much as this one did so far, and that is a program/app/site called Notion. I am not using it for very long, only a few months but I am loving it so far. I learned that with the right tools I can do things better and faster, I can organize my life better, even when my life goes crazy, and most importantly I can see my goals, my objectives all the time and that helps a lot when I plan my day and I am reminded daily of my big goals, and my monthly and weekly tasks take I set to work towards that bigger goal.

If you want you can try Notion for yourself and for your own needs. Build great habits, daily smart goals, and powerful tasks… And it’s free 😉

The right tool can give you a great start on your projects and tasks and can give you the push you need to not give up on your goals, as most people do after a while. Find the tool that works best for you and using it daily, by reminding yourself about your big goals and why you do them and how you will achieve them. If you would like to see my Notion setup and how I see my goals daily, I can do a video on it or show you here in pics ❤

That is it for 2019 and I am so excited for this year. I know that 2020 will be amazing, hard as always, lol, but I know that I am learning so much, which will help me do more and achieve my goals.

What did you learn in 2019? What is your #1 goal for 2020

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

How To Write During The Holidays

The holidays are upon us and with them come the holiday parties, family gatherings, lots of celebration that will lead us straight to the new year, and many yummy foods.

If you’re asking why even write during the holidays and why not just rest and recharge. Well if you take this time to recharge then you must need that, but if you just taking this time to be less productive or you just don’t know how to write during this chaotic time, well for that I wrote this post.

For me this is the perfect time to push through, start new things and not slow down, so that my new year will start better and stronger. There is nothing wrong with taking a break especially at this time of year, but for me and many others, we slowly fall into the writer’s block or slump, after not writing for so long. So I try and keep writing, even if it’s just a little each day, a few lines or just an idea, a dialog… Just enough to keep the writing juices flow in the next year. It makes getting back to my writing routine much easier.

So I gathered the best tips I use to write during these holidays and I hope they will help you enter the new year with strong writing motivation.

Read your favorite book

Reading always brings new ideas into my mind but reading one (or a few) of my favorite books seems to do that even easier. If you are going on vacation or visiting family, bring with you a book or two (ebooks if you don’t want to carry them with you) and a notebook or just use your phone and jot down any idea that you like while reading, a great dialog, a nice description anything that would later help you write faster and get more motivated to write.

Listen to music and make a playlist

I love to use Spotify and there are so many great writing playlists out there that will surely spark your imagination. I love making character playlist but also a place my character is going at or living in. The possibilities are endless and music always seems to help me get motivated and inspired.

Learn to write on your phone

Our phone is a wonderful tool, almost like small computers. you can capture an image that helps you describe things better, write in your notes (or other apps), and even record your thoughts and ideas. With your phone is like you are carrying an endless way to help you be a better writer. So, grab your phone and start writing, even if it’s just a few lines or random words that seem to spark an idea, anything that will later help you combine all of these things into a great story.

Do shorter but effective writing sprints

Even we are surrounded by endless parties and family gatherings, we still have a bit of time for ourselves, if it’s in the early mornings or before we fall asleep. Find these little moments and do some short writing sprints. put on a timer for 5 minutes if that is all you have and start writing. If nothing comes to mind then just journal in these 5 minutes. At least you are writing and that what’s important here, not what you are writing but the fact that you are… Writing.

Join the parties and the conversation, you will have tons of ideas later to write about before you fall asleep.

You have no idea how much I love to listen to random conversations, lol (I know, I’m weird), but look around you, try to listen to others or join the conversation if you want and can, soon enough you will find that even these random conversation with family and friends, coworker and strangers ca spark many ideas and inspiration to a few lines and description that you will later be able to jot down in your notebook or you can use your phone.

Don’t stress if you didn’t write, there’s always tomorrow.

If you still can’t write a day or even two, don’t stress and don’t be hard on yourself, just try again tomorrow. There’s always tomorrow to try again. And if you can’t seem to write anything, I would try to just journal about my day for a few minutes.

Bonus tip:

Build a small reward system not based only on food or shopping.

Try not to reward yourself with food alcohol or shopping. Find the rewards that will really excite you and bring you more motivation and inspiration. For me at least, I love to reward myself with more youtube if it’s just for fun or inspiration. I know that I earned that after all my writing, hehe. Rewarding with food, alcohol or shopping is fun as well but it can lead to bad behaviors that we do not wish to have. So choose your reward wisely and something that will feel like you earned that.

Do you write during the holidays? Any tips to share?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

6 Easy Steps to Motivate Yourself

Motivation is something that I had to work hard to get, it never was an easy task for me, from getting up in the morning to working hard on my personal goals, I always seem to find my way out of things, hehe. But as I grew older and became a bit smarter I realized that there are things I will never be good at, but at most things, I can work hard and use the resources I have around me in order to succeed.

As we are closing in on another year, I worked harder on some things and I found a few easy ways that did help me a lot to get myself motivated and push myself. So I thought as we come closer and closer to the new year, we all could use better skills on how to motivate ourselves to do all the things that we want to do and need to do.

So let’s start 😉

1. Find your emotions behind that task

We all heard this many times before, you need to know your why and understand the emotion behind your wants. I heard this many times as well but I never truly give it a deeper thought. I thought I know my whys but I never truly knew it.

What really helped me understand my why, and understand the emotions behind the things I want to do, was so simple that I don’t know why I never used this tool to motivate myself harder. I took a few minutes (no more than 5-10 minutes) and wrote down why I truly want to publish my book or to do any of things I want to accomplish and after I have all the reasons of why I look at each of them and try to feel the emotions after I achieve these things, but truly trying hard to feel all the emotions after achieving my goals.

This is a simple tool but it helps your brain to understand why are you doing what you doing and by connecting your emotions to your tasks and goals, you are much more likely to show up for them and work harder on them.

2. Break your task to smaller bites

Looking at a huge task is always daunting and scary, but breaking that big goal or task into much smaller bites, helps us feel much more accomplish once we achieve that smaller goal or task and that way we are more likely to continue on and finish that huge goal or task.

For example: If you want to write a book – break it down to chapters – a page – a paragraph – continue to break it down to whatever small task you know you can easily achieve, even in your busiest of days or when you just not feeling it.

3. Inspire yourself

Look at other creators and absorb their inspiration, lol, now I know it sounds a bit weird, but everyone and everything can inspire you. so look at a motivating speaking on youtube, or just a write on youtube (or at other creators), listen to a podcast or read a book, go for a walk. Try and find something in your surroundings that will inspire you and give you the right push you need. There are a lot of things right now in your immediate surroundings that I am sure can inspire you and motivate you, you just need to ask for it and look around to find it.

4. Make it fun

If the task is too daunting and too scary, even after you tried everything else I suggest you try and make it a bit fun.

For example: When I do the dish (And I hate every moment of it, lol), I always put on my headphones and blast upbeat music and I literally dance next to sink while I wash the dishes, hehe… I know… I know… I’m weird. But for me, it helps, lol, a lot.

Try and do something you love while doing something you hate or not looking for so much, or just scared to start.

5. Schedule your tasks and goals

Understanding the why, the emotions, after we broke things down to small bites, inspired ourselves and even made things more fun, we still need to schedule it all in our busy lives and put all of our tasks and goal into a calendar or planner and give everything a deadline, a date that you think you will be done with that task or goal.

Be real with yourself, and know that you can’t really finish writing your entire book in a week, lol, well maybe you can but I know I can’t 😀 So try to think ahead a see with everything that is going on in your life right now and that might be in your life how will you fit your writing?

Look at things as how they truly are and not how you wish it to be on an ideal day, week or month. For me, this was a big lesson I learned this year. I learned that in order to truly make good progress, I need to know how long it will take me with all that is going on or that can be and schedule them all.

6. Use a timer

I am a strong believer in using a timer for a few years now. This by far the best immediate productivity tool I use. I set my timer for 5 minutes and go around an area in my house picking things up and organizing or washing the dishes. I set the timer for 20-30 minutes for a writing session and I use my timer for many more things in my daily routine.

If you want to see how much a minute is truly is, just set a timer and look at how long it takes for the time to pass. so imagine how much time is 5 minutes or 20. You can achieve more when you know that the time is running out, haha. A timer shows you the passing time and that is a very powerful tool, so try it and let me know how it goes 😉

What motivates you to do things you don’t really want to do, or just scared to do?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

November Update

Hello my friend, hope you are having a great day ❤

I’ve been away again for a while, but it was for a great cause. November was not only a very busy month with Nanowrimo and trying to write 50K but also… I’ve been working on some great things that will launch at the end of December and at the start of next year 🙂

Nanowrimo was a big challenge for me, but not as much as the year before. This year it wasn’t from lack of time nor energy, I guess it was hard getting used to writing again every day or every few days, hehe.

NaNoWriMo is over, and I’ve lost. I’ve finished Nanowrimo with 48.2K words and that’s amazing. I am so happy that I’ve made so much progress with my book, it already looks tons better. and soon enough I will enter the next stage of my editing which will be the Line Edits (OMG! The horror!)

But jokes aside, I love how the story changed with the editing and so far I have done so many content edits (that’s what happens when you don’t outline correctly or loosely, haha – Learn from my mistakes). With the recent edits I mad, everything feels more real and even the side characters have better depth to them. There lots more to do and to edit, but I am so grateful that my mom is feeling better and that I have this precious time to sit down to write and edit and even adventure to more things I really want to try.

My December Goals are short:

  1. I want to keep up with my editing and finish it before the new year.
  2. I want to finish preparing for the new upcoming things.
  3. Clean and organize the house.

How was November for you? & What are your goals for December?

That’s it for this update, trying to finally keep it short and sweet, hehe 😀

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

NaNoWriMo 2019

Hey everyone, I hope you are all having a great day ❤

Here in Israel, we are in the midst of 3 big holidays. Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, and Succot. Why am I telling you this? Well, it’s because this holiday month will not give me much time to prep for this year’s Nanowrimo but I am still working hard on finishing a few things and trying to outline in many details the second book in the series I am working on.

The first book is still in the editing stage but I am only 1 and a half chapters till the end of this editing stage and then I will continue on to the more detailed edits of Line and copy edits.

Nanowrimo 2019, Coffee n' Notes

Anyways, I am so excited for this year’s Nanowrimo that I’m trying to work every day on a bit more editing the first book and outlining the second book, so I will know what I will be writing about. I also love the new site very much but I didn’t like much the fact that they removed all the writing buddies and now I needed to start over. But the new banners look so amazing, they really do get better with them with each year passing, wow. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 10 years, omg.

So if you want to be my writing buddy feel free to add me I’m Jasmin66 and I will be happy to add you as well 😀

I want to try to post more here hopefully, 3 times a week, but not promising anything with the holidays and all, hehe. But I want to try harder because I really miss blogging. At first, I wanted to do Blogtober and I even planned a few posts in bullet form, but after a more realistic outlook of all I need to do this month and the holidays, I figured it was best not to overwhelm myself so I decided on 3 times a week would be sweet for us all 😉

Are you participating in Nanowrimo this year? If so what are you planning to write about?

That is all for this short update and ramblings, have a wonderful day.

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

Fierce twenty-two-year-old Addy hasn’t had the easiest of circumstances. Then she runs into Adriel, a half-naked young man with major back burns, kickstarting a series of disasters in her life, mainly her younger brother Reed disappearing into thin air with a strange man. She immediately suspects Adriel is the culprit. After all, Reed’s kidnapper had the exact same burn marks on his back.

Adriel, who a few hours ago had been a guardian angel, doesn’t know why he is on Earth with a human heart pulsating in his chest. After he sinned, he was sure he would be cast into Hell. Instead, the wild young woman he stopped for help on the road won’t stop questioning him about her missing brother.

Although Adriel claims innocence, Addy doesn’t believe him until she comes face to face with Lucifer, the lord of Hell, who has imprisoned Reed. Lucifer awakens the demonic blood dormant within Addy and sends her on a mission to corrupt human souls. His desire: to wage war on Heaven with an army of demon-turned humans.

And not following his plan? That’s a sure way to get Reed killed. Against Adriel’s objections, Addy must follow through with a job she never signed up for—preying on human souls.

Review
5 Stars

This is a spoiler-free review.

A small disclaimer… I read this book at a very hard time in my life when my mom wasn’t feeling so good and to top it all our beautiful dog Menta passed away, Reading this book not only made this time pass easier as I was truly immersed in the story.

Wow, wow… Wow. I can’t stop saying wow, hehe.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and I can’t wait to know more and read more.

This is a dual point of view story, between Addy and Adriel. Most of the time I can’t fully connect to these types of stories but here it was well made and thought off, that you can feel the characters and see their desires and understand how they work.

The main character Addy is so strong and so relatable, I instantly got invested in her and I enjoyed seeing how the character growth over time. I love how fearless Addy is especially with helping her lost brother Reed, but she herself is dealing with new issues as new things awaken in her and the things she finds about herself only makes her even stronger and better at understanding what is really good dor her. Addy showed her true self in these pages and I was fully connected to her because of that.

Adriel is such a strong and great character as well, that as a fallen angle needs to deal with so much as well but also poove to Addy that he is not the monster she thinks he is. This story cured my reading slump I was in and helped me with the sadness I felt, weird I know… But it’s the truth.

I loved the characters so much, each and every one of them felt so real and so strong in their beliefs, it made the story flow so smoothly and feel so much stronger as I read deeper into the story. They’re so much more I want to know and understand, I need more books by this author 😀

The writing style is on point, it usually takes me a few chapters until I dive deep into a story but here, from the first chapter I was completely in and hooked.

This story has everything you need, pure exciting adventures, angles, and demons, family and love. I think it’s a must book to read in this fall season and a must in every book lover’s TBR ❤

Never Forget Your Ideas Again

Hello everyone, and a happy Wednesday to you all ❤

This post ended up being long (sorry for that), so grab yourself a drink, set the mood 😉 and enjoy reading.

I tend to forget a lot of things, things I was sure my mind will capture but sadly it didn’t. So I learned to write everything down and capture all the things I need to do, want to remember and just ideas that float in my brain. I think we are all experienced at some point, having a great idea (the best idea) pop to our head while we’re doing something, and as soon as we are about to go write it down, the idea is long gone.

Studies show that our brain can hold in our immediate memory bank about 6-7 thoughts and adding more information will just get lost in the sea of thoughts or will get replaced by another item in your memory bank that you held onto from before.

I know it sounds weird but it’s the truth an more so if you are suffering from any memory problems like myself, but still need to function as normal. But there are a few things that can help us all, whether or not you have any memory problems, these tips will help you capture any thought or ideas you wish to capture.

Pick one place for it all

I have many notebooks for a lot of things: I have a planner, a bullet journal, a dream journal, a tarot reading journal and many more. But for capturing our immediate thoughts or ideas I suggest using only one item if it’s a notebook you can carry around with you everywhere or an app on your phone.

There are so many ways and apps today that designed to help you capture ideas like Trello, Google Drive, Evernote, Milanote, Goole Keep and many more… What you choose is up to you. I used them all because I love trying out new ways to improve my work but I always find myself going back to the same tool and for years now I am using Google Keep and I just love it ❤ I have it everywhere and it syncs with my computer, laptop and phone easily and you can add pictures, voice memos, drawings to your text, and even add another person or your team to your specific note.

Google Keep, Coffee n' Notes, Capture Notes

I also use Milanote for a more visual aspect of my goals and ideas.

Not all ideas and thoughts are made equal, but you should still capture them all

Make it a habit to capture everything that comes through your mind. Ask anyone who really knows me, they will tell you straight away that if it’s not written it doesn’t exist, hehe:D If you do it every time you have an idea and make it your habit, you will be able to focus better and with less stress.

Categorize your ideas

I have a few categories I add my notes to (like home, recipes, husband, me, my mom, my writing projects, my blog, Instagram, things I want to buy and many more). Adding categories makes things easier to search.

Color Code

Besides categorizing, I also color-code my notes and just by color I will immediately know what the note is about, (Blue is for everything related to home and my husband, Green is my for my mom, red is for writing, yellow is for important, and purple is my blog and social media).

Needs more work or done

What I love most in google keep is the ability to pin the cards that are important to you and you can archive the cards to your “categorized file or label”and this way you can organize your ideas and thoughts in so many ways to help you get the most of your ideas and never lose an important idea.

What I do is: what’s important I pinned-up, what I need to go through is in my home feed, what I archived is all done, every category but my writing, hehe. Once a week I go through them all and see what to keep, organize, or trash.

Revisit – Go Through your notes

Writing your ideas is the perfect way to never lose them but you also should go through them from time to time and revisit those old ideas and see if they still serve you in any way or not.

This is kind of like a kanban board of To Do, Doing and Done. This is not to keep forever and for all eternity, it’s just to help you keep your ideas and your immediate thoughts but also to go through them and work them through.

But Galit, I had a great idea in the shower how do I remember it before it’s all gone?

Well, I know this all too well, hehe. Our best ideas are always coming to us while we in the shower, driving home or even in our dreams. I found the google assistant to work well for me while I’m driving. I am more and more using my google assistant, hehe to make calls, and voice record my ideas while I’m doing other things.

If I’m in the shower and I get an idea I start to elaborate on that idea… Let’s say I got an idea about a book, I see a character doing something… I start asking questions and try to write in my head the idea with as many details as I can. As soon as I get out of the shower I quickly jot down my idea with all the details I could remember, that way the spark of the idea is not gone.

Braindump before you fall asleep

I am especially using the word braindump and nor brainstorm because it’s what we need to do before we fall asleep, more so if you are having trouble falling asleep.

Take 5 to 10 minutes and just write down everything that goes through your mind. Just brain dump your thoughts, your worries, needs and wants, tasks, ideas and everything else that comes to your mind. If doing this every day doesn’t work for you, that’s okay but I still recommend to do this at least 3-4 times a week. You will be able to fall asleep faster and sleep better.

Sweet Dreams

Remembering our dreams is not an easy task, but if you do want to make your creative well even more bountiful, keeping a dream journal will help you not only fight your daily battles more easily but also help you build a creative well that fills up every single night 😀 Especially after you braindump all your worries and ideas of that day/week.

If you made until the end, thank you so much for reading, you are amazing ❤

Hello…

Hey everyone, I am so happy to be back and I hope you all having a good day ❤

I missed blogging so much, that I even had a dream about blogging in last night’s dream 😉

I am slowly getting back my groove back and starting doing slow yoga, a bit of tarot and crystals (I missed my crystal so much, hehe), and the most important I got back to my writing/editing and reading.

I am doing different kinds of art or creative endeavors, and I think that’s what made the switch in my brain to finally work on my book as well 😀 I am ready for real-life now and I am ready to work hard again on the things I want and need.

So, I wanted to share this with you so you will know I have not forgotten about you all and I can’t wait to read your posts again 🙂 I missed reading them a lot.

A new post will be up tomorrow 😀 See you then ❤

How’s your week so far?

As always, thank you so much for reading ❤
