My NaNoWriMo Prep

Nano is only a few days away, OMG! πŸ˜€

I saw these kinds of posts everywhere and I thought: Why not share my Nano prep with you as well. Each Nano is very different from the next and it all depends if I have a plan or not (in most cases, I have a plan).

This year, as I wrote in the post a week ago: Writing Update & Plans, I am planning to write the second book in my “The Earth Legacy” Series. I outlined the book (well… most of it anyway, lol) and now waiting for Nano to start πŸ™‚

So… How do I prepare for Nano? Here are my top 6 steps:

Find that spark:

I have a spark of an idea and I think of it. I start asking questions about the plot and the characters. Then the real work begins! I start writing notes, tons of notes… On my notebook, my phone, on my laptop and even a lot of little-colored post-its all over my desk.

Outline:

I love to outline my novel as much as I can. I just use keywords or short sentences about each major scene. You really want to have some sort of plan as it’s going to be a very fast writing and you do not have time for writer’s block πŸ˜€

Open your Planner:

Start thinking of all your other duties and hobbies like family, friends, gaming ((crying)) and house chores and think of how to fit some of them in with Nano month. The best thing that helps me is to write in my planner the entire month of all my Nano word count goals put the hours I need to write those words under each day. You will have to put aside a few things, like friends, gaming ((still crying about that), trips to town to do some shopping and just stay committed to your writing.

To blog or Not to blog:

If you are a fellow blogger like me and you do choose to blog while doing Nano, write a few postsΒ  in advance or at least write some notes of each future posts, so when it comes to write your posts, you will not have a writer’s block and it will not keep you away from your writing for too long πŸ˜‰

Stock up:

Stock up on some chocolates, candy, yummy tea and coffee. You will barely sleep, as you are going to write in each free second you have. You have 50,000 words to write or if you are like me you have double that amount, lol (yep! crazy). Writing so fast and so much will drain you fast. Coffee or tea will become your friends and chocolate and candy will become your best friends πŸ˜€

Sanity?

Say goodbye to your sanity! I am not joking. You will dream of words, characters will jump into your daily life, Bunnies will try to put holes in your plot, lol, but most importantly, writing this many words in 1 month is beyond crazy… You must love it to go for it πŸ˜€

,

If you are like me, you’re just crazy enough to give it a go and enjoy the craziness πŸ˜€

Are you doing Nano this year? How do you prepare for it? Don’t be shy and share some your best tips (I know you have them) πŸ˜€

  1. Sanity? Hah! I never had any in the first place. πŸ˜€ This is actually a good list of tips. Definitely stocked up on the chocolate, and prepared myself to sacrifice some things to make extra time to write.
