Writing In Chaos

Good evening everyone, hope your day (and week) is going great 🙂 Today I was at home all day and just tried to catch up on a few blog posts (I missed so many, sorry guys). It was so fun to read your posts and enjoy this time just for that ❤

After a few people DM me on twitter and emailed me the same question “How do you find time to write? I am starting this temporary feature of Writing In Chaos. Once a week I will share my most loved tip of how to write while your life is not as relaxed and organized, as you wished it to be 😉

So let’s start 😀

Find Claim The Time

Life… Life can be so hard, chaotic and stressful. Writing while all of this is going on around you is even harder mentally, emotionally and even just to “find” the right time to write. I can tell you from my own experience that “finding the right time” is hard and almost impossible to find.

I learned that there is no ‘right time’ for writing.

Now I will say this and this is the honest truth for me… I can’t edit while I’m stressed out. I can always blame my illness that can’t handle stress at all, but I am not doing that. When I’m stressed I just can’t sit down and edit (it’s that simple). Editing takes way too much from me, unlike writing.

So before I will run with my thoughts too much, making this posts even longer, lol, I will go back to my post title 😀

So… How do you write while living a chaotic and stressful life?

The short answer, you can’t! (But wait…)

The right answer here is… Relax! 😀

Learn to relax for just a little while and then write.

You need to find 1 minutes, or 5 minutes (the place doesn’t matter right now, it can be even in the bathroom, lol) but you must bring yourself to breathe and relax.

With all that is going on in my life right now and this blazing heat, I can’t edit a single word but I can find those little moments and write. I call it freestyle writing. In this type of writing, you take 1 minutes or more and start writing on whatever comes to mind (I mean… whatever).

It can be about your day, an object in front of you, a word that jumped into your mind, a place you dream to go or a person. Anything goes, just write. Learn to enjoy those little moments that are only yours and even be creative at these moments. it’s not about your family, work, friends or shopping, only you with yourself.

I guarantee you will feel free once you do it and if you love writing or creating, you will find these little moments more and more throughout the day. But for now, try and do this even if it’s only once a day for 1 minute, 5 minutes but no more than 10 minutes.

Time

When I first started, I felt too stressed and way too overwhelmed with everything and sadly I gave up almost everything just to able to do what I needed to do. But giving up the writing (even for a few months) was too hard emotionally and I couldn’t find the time (I was very annoyed by this).

So I started this freestyle writing just for 1 minute here (in the car while I was stuck in traffic in hell heat), 1 minute there (while I was in the shower, lol) and slowly it grew to 5 minutes here and there. After a while, it was even more. Now… Now I have a full story completed (no editing yet, lol) and I wrote it while life was more hectic and chaotic than ever.

126,420 words in 2 stressful month 😀 For me… This is beyond awesome 😉

So don’t guilt yourself to write and just take that 1 minute (here and there) to only write, imagine, or even record… some of your thoughts, some imaginary world or character, some type of little plot, or a blog post ideas.

The important thing here that you claim this time for your craft, knowing that this is just yours to be creative and write (or draw, play or blog…anything goes). You will be amazed what you can accomplish with only 1 minute and even more with 5 minutes 😉

Don’t try to find the time but claim the time 😀

That is all for this little tip, hope you are all having a wonderful day and maybe even a creative one 😀
As always, thank you so much for reading ❤

  1. This is so true. Though I spend more time writing than most because it’s my therapy, I can relate. When things are busy, take whatever tiny snippets of time you have and make something. It really adds up.

  2. Great advice, thank you! I have so many excuses, but you are right – I just need to write when I have the time. Thanks for this! It’s a good reminder to actually use whatever time I have.

    1. Thank you so much 🙂
Yeah I know… I am super lazy and love to procrastinate so much, lol, so it’s hard to start making time to write, but I found that taking these small writing minutes helps a lot, and then I want more and more 😀

  3. Hey Galit

Such a thoughtful post!! Thanks a lot, it was quite long but very insightful. I appreciate your efforts. Keep posting 😉 What do you think about writer’s block? You know these days I spend my waking hours pondering over what to write for my next post. Its very hard process to come up with something. Whatever said, the sense of accomplishment – its all worth it 😉

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment 🙂 So sorry for the long post, lol.
Writer’s block is hard and annoying if you write a book or post.
For me what really works is to write down any idea that come to mind even the most crazy ones, lol, really.
I once wrote in a sticky note on my phone about a blog post idea so funny and crazy that it is still on my phone, lol, every time I see it I laugh so hard and start writing new ideas.
You can try free style writing and just write what ever comes to mind and slowly think of what posts would you love to read and just write about that. Soon enough you’ll have tons of ideas 😀
Writing is hard work but the best ❤

      1. Thanks for the reply 😉
I do free style actually but at times lot ideas just pop up and before i could jot them down – they vanish into thin air. I have a hard time hunting them down ;D

        1. LOL yeah I know what you mean 😀 It happens sometimes when I am unable to write in my phone (like in meeting and stuff), but in most cases my phone is my notebook, lol, even though I have 2 notebooks in my bag and a planner 😀
