Hello to all my lovely readers and friends 🙂

Before I will start with this post, I wanted to share a nomination I received by the lovely Fia The Very Inspiring Blogger Award . I updated the nomination, as I already have done it… So you can find it at the awards page ❤

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my books and how I see myself as a reader (not just as a writer).

A few nights ago I had a dream about hubby, myself and our books, lol. I will not get into too much detail, but I would say it made me think a lot. Both hubby and I have about 400 books in our house (and I read more than that so far).

Hubby is not much of a reader these days, as his work is too demanding and he is much more into gaming. I am a very avid reader (to say the least) and my TBR (To Be Read) list is at almost 500 books so far.

Sorry for the ramblings…

I wanted to make this poll and to read your thoughts on what do you prefer when you read. Is it printed books only or you have a Kindle or other e-book app as well? I wanted to know what are your thoughts on this and if you do like kindle or apps, what kind?

So far I have my Lenovo tablet and I have the Kindle app on it. It’s nice to read from it as it has a huge screen, but it comes with a price of being too heavy after a while of reading. I love reading, I can’t even say how much I love reading books and feel and smell them, but as time passes by I am leaning towards the Kindle or other e-books readers or apps and buy only the most and best of the printed books, The ones that just say… Wow!

Now, before you get too emotional about it, lol, I must say that most of the books I have are good books, that I really enjoyed reading more than just once (more than 10 times, even). I would love to have a huge library in my house filled with books from top to bottom, but I need to be realistic as well about owning so many books 😀

So I thought I would start looking around, reading posts and articles about it until I will have a more solid opinion of what to do. After all, I will not stop buying books, but I might not buy that many printed books in the future. Maybe… I don’t know yet, lol.

I made a little poll about this in the hope that you can help me with that… If you have any other suggestions feel free to share them in the comments below.

What kind of books would you prefer to buy (printed books) and what kind would you buy for Kindle or other apps?

  1. I have a Kindle fire and also my iPhone. I use the app for Kindle and I Boxed on my iPhone to read e-books.the Kindle fire works well to read e-books too.
    I started noticing that my eyes began hurting a lot when I would read at night off of my phone or my Kindle fire tablet. Then I was told it’s because of the lights that glares off of the screens. Some technical thing about the light shines out the words toward you instead of in words. So I ended up I am the Kindle paperwhite about a month or so back. I love it! I can read outside in the bright sunlight or inside in the dark in my eyes Adjust easily and do not hurt anymore.
    I still read my normal paperback and hardcover books too. But lately I am finding that I have no room to store them and when I try to store them in boxs and crates something always happens to them. They end up getting ruined or messed up and then I don’t want to keep the book after it’s been messed up.
    I need to do some house cleaning of my books. I’ll keep the ones I want, donate the ones that I can, and sadly recycle/throw out the ones that are irreparable

    1. I hate putting books in boxes that’s why mine are on two huge shelves back and front, lol. I heard that the kindle paperwhite is the best and I will buy it, as soon as I can.
      I will buy printed books but only the great one and by the authors I love.

  2. love printed books as much as I love reading on my kindle paperwhite. Yea, no kidding! I know paperbacks are classic and everyone loves them (so do I) but lets get real, it’s actually impossible to keep more than 500 paperbacks without a problem. They keep on revising the editions and I hate to miss the good ones just cause I have the old one! Also when it comes to travelling, especially for a person like me who reads 5 books at the same time, it gets awkward carrying around all those books!
    When it comes to Kindle, lets face it, the books are cheap, I mean literally they are less than half the price of paperbacks most of the time. Secondly, there’s no storage issue! Thirdly, paperweight has an amazing display which actually feels like “paper” and Galit, trust me, it doesn’t give eyes any stress (I read it day and night!) You can lie down and read nicely on your kindle and the best part it you can look up for meanings instantly just by pressing on the word! I mean, when I read 2-3 books on my paperwhite (it’s name is Eddard) and then read a paperback, I curse all the time for the lack of “touch”… lol… then I feel like Kindle paperweight is so much better… REALLY!
    and if nothing you atleast have the satisfaction of being “eco-friendly”!
    Also there are 2-3 sites where I’ve registered (BookBub, SweetFreeBooks, ManyBooks) where they mail me everyday about free e-books and also the sale ones, I mean how awesome is that!
    I took my kindle just October last year and I already have around 900 or so e-books… lol!

    Now if you’ll ask me to choose between kindle app and Kindle paperweight, I tell you to straight away but Kindle paperweight… the app doesn’t even come close to the “Kindle” itself! It’ll take a bit of spending to but paperweight, but trust me, it’s totally worth every penny!
    Also now as you’ll be reviewing and hence, reading some more books, your eyes will get ruined on tablet… trust me and buy Kindle paperweight… you’ll be thanking me (and everyone who recommends it) in just a week of use it 🙂

    1. I know… I feel the same way. I love a huge rooms full of books, but books need taking care of so they will stay perfect. I am the one who don’t break the spine and I read between 4-6 books at the same time as well… But, I never take my books with me out of the house, I am too afraid that something will happen to them.
      So Kindle is a great idea for me and I’m starting to like it more and more 😀
      I told hubby that the Kindle for me is like
      that Hermione Granger’s beaded handbag that has shelves after shelves of books inside 😀
      Omg, your Kindle sounds perfect, mine is on an app so the eyes do hurt after a while and the weight of my tablet is hard to hold after a while as well, lol.
      Wow… Eddard sounds like a dream ❤
      Getting free book is an even better dream, lol. 900 E-books, wow ((Drooling)).
      I love to be part of reviewing and I hope I will do good, lol.

  3. I love printed book, I love the feel and smell of them. But I do have a Kindle as well. I like the fact that I can get books that are out of print and free books on it. If I can buy the book as a print book, I will, but the ebook version is a good second option. Plus, if I need to take it somewhere I can have access to many books without the associated weight problem.

    I am running out of space though, for my books. I wish sometimes I could just be a digital only girl and give up the physical stuff. I would have a lot more room, and be less cluttered. But I love my books too much. 🙂

  7. I have to say I love my kindle fire. I love the convenience of it, I also like the fact you don’t what I’m reading. Is it a steamy romance novel or an instructional book for dummies?? You won’t know! 😛 With that said I have bought books I truly love on paperback and read the heck out of them plus own the digital copy. 🙂

  8. I will buy the printed books of my favorite authors. I will buy the printed and the e-book of Stephen King books. His heavier books anyways. I have carpal tunnel and it hurts my wrist too much to hold his giant books.

    If it’s a new author that I don’t know about yet I will buy the e-book. Unless it has a really pretty cover. And when I do buy printed books I try to get the hardback, they are more expensive but they have prettier artwork, they are sturdier and they look better on the shelf.

    I just buy books…it’s an addiction. But I have the Kindle Fire and I love it, not just for reading purposes. There is a note app that I have on that I can use to jot down notes for my writing or even things I want to remember about the story I am reading.

    1. Books addiction is the best I have that as well 😀 But it’s a nice thought of having just the favorite authors on my shelves and the new ones on Kindle 🙂

  9. I personally love a god old book and wouldn’t start reading from a tablet. It’s just not the same, I like to have a book in my hand and turn the pages the good old fashion way. For you though, it might be smarter to buy books as well as reading e-books. You say that you have around 400 books in you’r home so might be smart to use you’r tablet from time to time as well 🙂

  10. I do love a real life book. However, I did get an e-reader last year and I do really like it. The one draw back is I can easily find cheap books to read but I have to purchase my books for the e-reader. I can download free ones from the library but the titles are not great and I have to wait a long time to get new books. So, the e-reader can be more expensive overall. Plus, I have to be carefully that it doesn’t get over heated in the summer when reading outside or at the beach and you can’t just toss it in bag because it could get damaged.

  12. I love reading fiction on my Kindle because I have arthritic hands. But when it comes to reference or cook books, I want print only. I hate reference books or cookbooks on my Kindle I’ve gotten rid of hundreds and hundreds of print fiction. I only kept books that were signed or special in some way. I just couldn’t fit them all any more.

    1. Yeah, I was surprised as well. I read an article that a high percentage of teen actuality like printed books more than ebooks, lol. I am 40 years old and so far I read only printed books, only this year I have started to tread ebooks. I guess there is nothing like holding a printed book… the smell and the feel are the best. I think I will just enjoy both… printed and ebooks 😜

      1. I think a lot of people are buying both — and it makes sense to me. You can buy a printed book for that wonderful feel, and then buy an ebook since its cheaper and quicker to get to you if you’re not around a bookstore.

  14. I have two Kindles, actually. One that was a gift and one I had bought myself. I have never been able decide which I love more, printed books or Kindle books. I love the feel and smell of printed books and I love the portability of the Kindle. Someone mentioned earlier that their ebook wouldn’t let them write notes. I have a Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire – they both allow me to write notes and save bookmarked passages if that’s a consideration for you. You can also see what other people have highlighted in the book.

    1. Actuality that sounds truly awesome 😍 I am starting to love Kindle more and more, lol. Printed books will never disappear in my house and I know my collection will grow, lol, but I will start a knew collection of ebooks as well 😄

      1. Yeah, I’ve already got about 50 ebooks on my Kindle. I had found an app on my Kindle Fire that gives me a list of some of the free books that Amazon.com offers daily. I think I downloaded 5 or 6 in the first half hour of downloading the app. 😛

      1. Yeah I’ve thought about reading e-books online too. My Mom gave me her library card number to use so I could have access to their site to read books online. Which is really neat I think!

  17. I love my Kindle but I prefer reading an actual book. I use my Kindle mostly for trying out a book to see if I want to buy it. I’ve got so many bargains on the Kindle store (20p books!) that I’ve loved and bought physical copies of.

Me either Galit – I adore getting absorbed in a great book, especially one I’m reeeeally enjoying 🙂 I use the original Kindle that my sis bought me a few years ago (basic model) Initially I didn’t want one UNTIL I ripped open her pressie on my 30th birthday – since then I haven’t looked back. Don’t get me wrong I love paper back and have a small library of them in the house but I adore my ebook reader so much – it’s comfy to use and stores lots. The only draw back is when I’m reading a self-help or reference books I can’t add little notes or put stick reminders on certain pages so I tend to buy paperback for those if I can – for fiction however it’s perfect 🙂 X

        1. Wow that sounds perfect, thank you so much 🙂 That is so weird tho, as in the app you can highlight, copy and add notes. I do that a lot to the book I read in the kindle app, lol. I do know what you mean tho, I order the two books for writing and editing, just for that. So I can easily put post-its and write on them what I need and place them where i want in the book 🙂

          1. I’m afraid digitially adding notes/highlighting etc just doesn’t work for me Galit… I’m a paper & pen kinda gal that is always within an arms reach of a sticky-note pad!! lol You just can’t beat the good old fashioned ‘write it down’ in my opinion!! 😀 X

            1. Yes, that is so true. I can’t argue with that, lol. My house is filled with post its and note pads everywhere. Even in my bag I have almost 4 different kind of pads and note pads with a huge collection of favorite pens, lol. Pen and paper is high above all other note taking options.

  19. I don’t do Kindle. At all. I should probably get the App since some of my favorite authors don’t have ePub for some reason :(.
    I rarely buy a printed book. We have a small apartment and our shelves are already double and triple stacked, mostly with paperbacks.
    I have a Kobo mini for taking everywhere. It’s super light and small enough to fit in my coat pocket. I have the Kobo Arc as well but it does get heavy so it’s mostly saved for reading at home, email and other apps if I don’t want to boot up the computer.
    I have considered Kindle in the past but when I got my first eBook they were not available in Canada because of copyright issues. Kindle is here now but I still don’t use it…those first issues are still on my mind plus Kobo is Canadian made and I like supporting the workers where I live.
    If you want to look into Kobo you can go to Kobo.com or visit your local Chapters/Indigo.

      I don’t know anything about Kobo, but I will check it out. There is nothing that screams E-book reader where I live, so I will buy (if I will buy) online.
      My books are mostly double stacked as well, lol. That’s is why I started to think about other ways to read books, other than the print version.

      1. Lol, I live in a larger area. Not quite metropolitan but it dreams of getting there eventually. You can also go to the Chapters/Indigo website to see what they are. I have more than 500 books on mine :). I love the fact that when I buy a book, or get a free one, from the site it automatically downloads to my ebook, no more on computer storage! I do have most of them stored on a memory stick though, lol.

            2. Oh, it is :), the only thing is…despite buying the digital form of books I have I still can’t make myself (or my boyfriend) part with the hard copies sigh.
              The one thing I love, absolutely LOVE, about ebooks is those HUGE books, the really thick ones, they no longer weigh me down since they no longer way any more than the ebook itself does :D.

            3. Yes, I love that as well. I have a few huge books on my shelf and sadly I have read them only once, because of that reason.
              So having them in a digital form, will be more than great:D
